I am looking for opinions...

If I was going to spend a full Sunday seeing one of these two part plays, which do you think I should pick? I've not yet seen Harry Potter and I used to be a big Potter fan but I think The Inheritance sounds quite interesting and I feel it goes along with my recent viewings of Angels in America, Boys In the Band, and Torch Song. Thoughts?!?!

I have seen both and would probably suggest The Inheritance. While highly overrated, it is at least a serious character driven play with important themes. Harry Potter is an entertaining but shallow plot driven play with great special effects. It won’t change thinking.

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

Both are very different plays. Given how you've recently watched Boys in the Band, Angels in America, and Torch Song, then I would also recommend watching the Inheritance.

Harry Potter will be on Broadway for several years whereas the Inheritance may only be on Broadway for a limited time (I know it's open ended but we won't really know what ticket sales will be like.)

Inheritance- but I was simply disappointed in HP.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Why not both? You only have one open day to see one play?

They’re both 2 part plays.

Just an FYI, a casual search suggests they don’t start performing both parts of The Inheritance on Sundays until November 10th and then only every other Sunday. Just in case that matters.   I haven’t seen either but I am really interested in The Inheritance and have no interest in Harry Potter.  I was disappointed that The Inheritance Pt. 2 didn’t start yet during my upcoming trip and I don’t want to see Pt. 1 without Pt. 2 so I’m hoping I can make another trip back to catch both parts in early 2020.

I am going to NYC for a weekend at the end of November. Inheritance has a both part Sunday the weekend I'm there. I already have tix to Little Shop on Saturday night so, yes, I only have one day to devote to a two part play.

Thanks for the opinions, it has really helped!!!
