For the likes of Best Musical or Best Revival who gets to walk away with a physical Tony award? I have read conflicting answers - some say the whole production while others state only the producers do?

Does anyone know or have any experience with this?

The producers in each category: Best Musical or Best Play, get two awards for free, but can order more if they pay the cost (no info on how much that is). Every producer whose name is above the title is allowed to get one, and basically 99.99 percent of them choose to do so. Organizations that are above the title get one for every principal in the organization, up to four — and the organization's name is what's engraved, not the person's name. Example: the year SPRING AWAKENING won Best Musical, the show had so many producers above the title that the producer Tony orders basically took the entire summer to fill.

Isn't it true that for Best Musical only the producers receive an actual trophy?  The 'authors' of the musical receive an actual Tony if they win best score or best book.  For Best Play, the playwright and the producers receive an actual award.  I believe this year was the first year a living playwright of Best Revival of a Play was eligible to receive an actual Tony, which was the case with Mart Crowley receiving his first ever Tony.  I don't know what happens if a living playwright's play wins best revival, but the playwright already won a Tony for an earlier production of that same play (I imagine the rules are similar as the one for actors who recreate earlier roles).   I may be wrong, so I welcome correction.

For Best Musical, the statue goes to the Producers. The authors do not receive an award, because they technically haven't won an award –– their work is honored in the Book and Score categories.

For Best Play, the statue goes to the Playwright and Producers.

For Best Revival, the statue goes to the Producers, unless the play has not previously been on Broadway and the playwright is alive; then, it also goes to the playwright.

3-4 statues are provided free, and the rest can be purchased for a few thousand dollars.

For producers, each trophy is inscribed with the billed Entity Name –– so if there are 5 co-producers who make up a group called WeLoveHades, then that's what the trophy will say.

We could argue that it devalues the power of winning a Tony Award if every billed co-producer/money-raiser gets one, but it also helps to raise money for a show, and riskier projects might not happen otherwise.
