If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
If ticket sales are good and they have a performer in mind like when Laura Osnes came in between Kelli's engagements in South Pacific, someone like Laura or Stephanie J. Block could possibly keep the show going for a few weeks while Kelli is doing King and I. I don't know if she has any concert engagements or if other cast members have gigs preventing an extension, but if not the show could potentially extend and survive a few weeks without her.
This was found on a cast member's Instagram! Looks like Kiss Me, Kate! is staying until June 30. Interesting though if Kelli will stay, considering she has The King and I starting back up soon after. Any ideas of a new Lilli/Kate?

Laura would be an interesting choice, certainly! I doubt SJB leaves Cher Show for a replacement gig, though, unless the show posts an early closing.

Considering SJB is currently considered the frontrunner for the Tony, and with the only real unknowns in the race being Rebecca Naomi Jones and O’Hara, I don’t think she will step in. Unless either performance becomes the “must see performance of the season” akin to Cynthia Errivo in The Color Purple, I see SJB winning a a career affirming Tony. This would akin to O’Hara for The King and I over Chenoweth, who arguably gave an equally great and if not moreso performance in On the Twentieth Century, but already had a Tony compared to O’Hara’s carear of great performances without any recognition.
Kelli O’Hara was great in The King and I. It was not a career award and the votes between her and Chenoweth were likely neck and neck. I highly doubt many people said “well, Chenoweth is giving the performance of her career, but Kelli needs a Tony, so...” if she didn’t win for The King and I, she would have still had many, many opportunities.
And without seeing the few other leading lady performances, Stephanie J. Block was insane in The Cher Show. She so perfectly embodied a living legend that is engraved in our brains and she played a lot more than just a character. If and when SJB wins, it will be well deserved. SJB has had a nice career as far as Broadway goes, but she is not “earned” a Tony.
Yes, it’ll be well earned. Block elevates that show to new heights. Her performance is perfect and that Tony is hers. Also, of course she’s not gonna replace Kelli.
