Anyone else fall into this category? I love them both, but for some reason, TTB just does more for me. I think the reason is this: Each character in TTB seems more real to me (perhaps because they are semi-based on actual people) whereas the Rent characters are not so much individuals as each is a representative of an entire group...

I was about 16 when Rent first came out, and at first didn't like it. Of course, like many, I great to love it, waited in line for tickets overnight back in the days and have a great fondness for it.
I was introduced to Tick Tick Boom almost a year ago, and I much prefer it. Maybe because I like singing the songs better; I find them more melodic. But if I had to choose, TTB would be my favorite of the two.

I love RENT, and always will.

But... Tick Tick Boom is an amazing show. Anything Jonathan Larson did was amazing.

I like RENT a little more than TTB, but TTB was so incredible.

Speaking of that, is anyone going to see it in New Jersey in March-April?

Yeah, me. Love both ttB and Rent, but enjoy ttB better. Might have something to do with the fact that I can understand the lyrics better live. And maybe something to do with my love for Raul Esparza and Joe McIntyre.

Like Rent, despise TTB.

Don't know why.

Raul Esparza and Amy Spanger where great in this production. I was blown away.

I think Rent suffers from bloat. It's too long, there are too many characters and it tries to address so much. That isn't to say it isn't an effective show, but I wish they would have been able to peel it back a bit and make more solid emotional choices with the characters. I think in TTB we get a much more personal story and one told without trying so hard to be so weighty and effective. It ends up being a touch more moving in its simplicity and in the basic investment we have in the characters.

"At which theater is it playing?"

It is playing at the George Street Playhouse in New Brunswick
March 16 to April 11.

Green Green Dress is one of the worst songs ever written...

I love the rest of the songs...

Me...I appreciate and like Rent now, but I couldn't stand it for years. I loved TTB the first time I heard the CD.

Rent - TTB never got my attention. I think I listened to it twice.

I love both. I prefer Rent live but I prefer ttB on the CD. Maybe thats because I am kind of tired of the Rent obcr. Both are great shows with great scores. Louder Than Words is my favorite all time song.

I do agree though Green Green Dress is a horrible song.

I think I'll go and catch TTB at the George Street Playhouse as well! I've never seen TTB, but I have the recording and am inlove with it. I think Amy and Raul make it all the better, but the lyrics are very inspiring and true. As of now I'm a bigger RENT fan but thats just because I hardly know anything about TTB.

I love both equally. RENT I kinda feel like I can relate, but it's still just a show. With TTB I feel like I can completely relate and that I wrote the songs about my life! But in the end both shows are awesome.

Think TTB will ever make it to the west coast??? re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: Anyone here

"Deep dark velvet hugs your silouette. Black silk stockings, you're my Juliet..." I thought it was adorable when Raul and Amy sang GREEN GREEN DRESS. So cute!

I actually just got the TTB cast recording like 3 days ago. I'm completely obsessed with 30/90. I really want to see it. It makes me happy that it'll be in NJ... and I agree with Phantom2. I think it's really cute.

If only it didn't sound like 'Vacation' by the Go Go's.

COME TO YOUR SENSES is my favorite. I always died when Amy Spanger was up there. She is soooooooooooo pretty and talented.

Yup, I prefer TTB to RENT. It just has a more intimate feel and I find it more melodic. "Louder Than Words" totally beats out "Seasons of Love".

hmm, how did I not see this topic before? =)
Well, I can say I pretty much love the shows equally. Jon can do no wrong in my book. But RENT will always have a place in my heart, and I think i'll have to say I like RENT a tad better.

How can someone say 30/90 sounds like Vacataion!?!?!? I don't know what version you listened to, but, unless I have a hearing problem, those songs sound NOTHING alike..werid.

Green, Green Dress is the SEXIEST song ever, I love it =)

"They're singing happy birthday"

"Vacation's all I ever wanted."

It's just one of those things my ear caught. No biggie, but now I can't hear one without thinking of the other.

My problem with TTB and Rent is the same: Larsen wrote strong anthems and decent to great ballads but when he tried to write straight-up cutesy show tune moments he was a lot less successful, 'Green, Green Dress' for example. Obviously, a show couldn't be all anthems and ballads (see: Ragtime) but I wish Larsen would have stayed further away from the traditional musical moments and stuck to his more modern view of things.
