Using that block feature on Charlie is honestly the best thing I've done on this board.

I am a diehard fan of BANDSTAND. Among the many changes from the Paper Mill productionthat I noticed: The introductory scene was changed, the ending scene was changed. Story was simplified with the elimination of characters (Cory's father and mother, his girlfriend). Songs in first act were dropped and replaced with others. Beth Leavel's song was changed, Cory is now responsible for Laura's husband's death (as opposed to having witnessed it) Hotel door scene in second act changed - Cory and Laura do not connect until later. Addition of song "This is Life"
The show was transformed in my opinion and, while not perfect, the show became a moving theatrical experience. I am truly sorry that its run is ending. .
"
Thank you! This is all quite interesting. I was quite surprised at how moved I was after seeing the show. I really did think it would be trite and just a cheap "salute to the troops" kind of deal, but it really went places I wasn't expecting.
I have to say on top of Love Will Come and Find Me Again and Welcome Home, Right This Way really made me sit up and take notice of Corey Cott.

"Michael Riedel...The Perez Hilton of the New York Theatre scene" - Craig Hepworth, What's On Stage
Very sad to hear it will close, saw it in April and really liked it. I thought Corey Cott and Laura Osnes performances were worthy of a Tony nomination. I enjoyed the music (got the cast album) and loved the dancing. I always find it a bit more disappointing when original show closes early because IMO this tends to make the money people take less chances on show that is not taken from movie, TV show or jukebox musical.
How would you have felt if someone that didn't see the show (any show) had trashed it? Said it was terrible...even if they based it only on the recording? His opinion would mean next to nothing, yes? Same thing.
On a written forum, words matter.....a lot. You are going to find many will jump on what you say and the way you say it, because your WORDS are all they have.
(and yes, the block feature is wonderful -- but I think I have blocked more ridiculous posters then "mean" ones.)
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?

I understand what I said is not accurate, but I also do not understand why this discussion keeps on happening. I only blocked Charlie because frankly, I did not want to see his repetitive replies on the board. Not to mention he wasn't being exactly positive either. If someone is only writing negative stuff, why would I want to see that? I understand where you're coming from though.
It keeps happening because different people see the conversation at different times.
Check your messages....(well, in a minute or two.)

Some people on this board seem very quick to jump to conclusions, and I'd rather not point fingers, but it seems to unfortunately happen often. Anyways, Bandstand seems great! I'd love to see it before it closes, but I just came back from NYC, so it's unlikely. I definitely think theaters can have a negative effect on your enjoyment of the show, that's unfortunate that you had to go through that."
Dude, you didn't say could possibly be or leads you to think it might be, you said "This is a real shame, one of the best shows of the season with an absolutely beautiful cast recording.". You can try to "revise" it now, after the fact and try to make everyone think it's everyone else's problem for overreacting or you can be intellectually honest and own what you said, that you decided a show you've never seen was one of the best of the season. You're certainly entitled to do that and others are equally entitled to point out how ridiculous that is.
Though in fairness, Tony voters might think you're on to something. Instead of having to schlep around and actually see all these shows before voting on which one is best, they'd love to just read the wikipedia entry to see the plot and who's in it and maybe listen to a few songs off the cast album, vote based on that and call it good. Soooo much easier.

Thanks UncleCharlie....I was starting to believe I wasn't reading what I was reading. Words matter. However I don't believe his intentions were bad. But words matter and he kept defending what he said. As far as blocking people and not liking how people respond... You won't do well in the real world if you can't deal with different people and how they react to things.
Loved this show and was thrilled that my 13 year old, who has a major crush on Corey Cott, got to see it. (Can you blame her!?!) Really impressed by the ensemble, band and dance scenes. The show has a touching message and I hope it tours across the US so as many vets as possible, and those who love them, can see it. Well done, Bandstand.
Oh, and the entire cast was so gracious after the show, signing autographs and chatting with fans. I don't know how they remained standing after an all-out performance!
I've gotta take up for ItOnlyTakesAJourney here. A lot of people don't have access to see a new show every week. Take me for example, I'm a 16 year old girl that lives in the middle of Georgia. The first time I saw a Broadway show, the opening number made me sob. Because I was there. As much as I would want to, I can't rush to see Great Comet or Banstand before they close. But I can confidently tell you they are wonderful and brilliant even though I've never seen them live. Sometimes just the mere appreciation of something makes it great it in your mind. I've never seen Hamilton. But let me tell you, I've done just about everything but seen it that I can do from down in Georgia. And I have as much say as anyone else. Of course I wouldn't be able to comment on a specific performer's portrayal one night because I didn't see it. But I can have a opinion on the show. And I appreciate for it what it's done and that makes it great in my mind.
I'm kind of rambling but Uncle Charlie's response kind of upset me. It's not that deep. That whole comment was just out of line. Don't take it so seriously.
And honestly, as long as someone is enjoying a piece of theatre (live or not) that's all that matters. Shouldn't we just be glad that someone enjoys it? That's a great thing! Theatre matters and I take it a lot of you like it. So support each other and take comfort in the fact that a whole community shares a common love for something that you love as well. It's not a competition.

Do they always send shows on tour that couldn't make it on Bway? Is that how they make up their $ losses in NYC? With all the seniors in Florida, Bandstand should draw a crowd.
I think Bandstand will draw crowds in on tour. Not huge, outrageous amounts, but people will be there. I'd love for it to find a life in regional and community theatres, as long as it's handled nicely.
No, not at all. Major losers never go on tour because no one is interested. Losers on Broadway that could peak interest for the rest of world (The Scottsboro Boys, Bridges of Madison County) end up doing well on tour.
Then we have the very sad shows like High Fidelity and Big Fish which I loved and I NOW I CAN'T TALK ABOUT THEM......
I like to think the "idiot" reference were the players in the Comet disaster and not the chatters here.
I wrote in the other chat that it'd be great to see an investigative journalist do a multipage feature story in the Sunday NYTiimes mag on just what the hell went on with all the players to destroy the show. If nothing else, it would be a great textbook on not what to do in theater production, management. & cast selection.
