Very sad news. They did many fine revivals of plays that deserved to be seen, such as Toys in the Attic and Vieux Carré. It's definitely a loss for New York theatre.
Oh, I just saw Vanity Fair there. And there production of A Taste of Honey was relatively good as well. It's a nice space even if it's quite a walk from the rest of the theaters in the area. I hope it doesn't just get made into office buildings.

And they've been at it for over 40 years. What a lovely post, After Eight!
I know nothing in the universe lasts forever, but this is very sad news.
Unfortunately, they seem to have (quite literally) written a check they couldn't cash. I always admired their work and their dedication to building a resident acting company. Although these kinds of troupes are still somewhat common in regional theater, you rarely see it in New York. It was sad when they lost their longtime space in the East Village, and it doesn't seem like they could ever make things work on the far West Side. I sometimes forgot about them completely until I would walk by their space on 11th Avenue. It's a shame to see them go.
Any news what will happen to the Signature's old space? Kind of wish Signature theater would use it again. Maybe for some shows they could run a bit longer.
