A Midsummer Night's Dream begins tonight! Can't wait to hear about this.

Best production of Midsummer I have ever seen. So much fun. This may be the best time I've ever had at the Delacorte. Immediate standing ovation at the end. Ashford is wonderful, Burstein super funny, the whole cast is sublime. Wow. Blown away. Just one cast member I didn't care for. Odd casting. Interested to see if others have the same reaction.

That is awesome to hear! What time did you get in line? Trying to plan out my day in a few weeks when I'm hoping to catch it!

AndersonTours, I share your enthusiasm, but am wondering who was the cast member you didn't care for. At Tuesday night's performance, Oberon stumbled over a couple of lines, but it was the first performance and he'll get that under control soon, and he was otherwise fine. Kristine Nielsen as Puck was maybe a shade less sublimely funny than she usually is, but that's a very high standard to hold her to, and I wouldn't have said she was miscast.

Jshan05, I can't answer your question about when to get in line, because a friend got the tickets through the in-person lottery at the Public Theater at noon.

It was a lottery ticket. Just had to go to the box office before the show.

Are these shows seriously that hard to obtain tickets to? I've heard from more than one person that they haven't been able to get them in a long time.

It depends on the show. If there's a big name involved, yes. If not, generally it's fairly easy to get tickets earlier in the run.

Looking for someone psychic to help me predict how the line will be this weekend! It'll be my only chance to see this production so just asking for opinions. Based on the last post I'm assuming first weekend isn't that bad?

I've done it twice and had completely opposite experiences. Got there at 6 for Much Ado and got the last available tickets, got there at 6 for Cymbeline and was one of the first few in line. So just looking for a little insight!

On Tuesday, they were telling people at 9 AM that the line was already too long and come back another day. I would say get there by 8AM the latest.   Free Shakespeare by A-Listers is always great and this production of MIDSUMMER has a lot going for it but it is one of the weakest shows I've seen in the Park in a while. It was the first preview and will get better but the pacing was rather slow (3 hours length) and the show looked kinda cheap in the Costume Dept. Some Costumes were  great and others (the mechanicals) non-existent. And the trees were wonderful but the rest of the set, moved around by visable stage crew was kinda shoddy.  But that's my opinion, Go see it for yourself, it's FREE!

CPD, my friend and I felt that the rule was build Hippolyta's costumes first.... and then see what budget we have left for everybody else.

Some people paint, some people sew, I meddle.

This weekend is supposed to have nice summer weather and Midsummer is a popular title. I would get there early.

It certainly looked like that, Hippolyta's  Costumes were Amazing, the rest, not so much.

Rashad's wig is gorgeous.

Here now, got on line at 6am just as they were letting people in the park. Have a good spot on the first set of benches.  New this year you must register for a patron ID number to get tickets. Guess they are trying to stop the line sitters.

No insult intended to the rest of the cast but aside from Phylicia Rashad are there "A-listers" or at least people who would drive up demand? I'm surprised to hear they would be turning people away at 9am.

I think Danny  and Annaleigh are "Broadway" A-Listers. And Rashad maybe an A-.

Ceetainly not Hollywood A-Listers, but SHAKESPEARE IN THE PARK is the name and it is a New York Summer Institution and draws crowds no matter the cast.

I feel like all the reporting surrounding Julius Caesar didn't hurt them either.

True, but I've gone in past years at 9-10am and been totally fine and there was similar Broadway or TV talent (again, excluding Rashad) in the cast. The only time I've had to go that early was for the Anne Hathaway Twelfth Night.

Perhaps more tickets have been distributed to other sources for tickets such as the in person lottery at the public theater or the "vouchers"? When I went to the in-person lottery on the first preview they had 100 tickets. Not sure how many they usually have at past productions.

I got a voucher today and so did someone else I know. How does it work when you turn them in? Do you just hand them the vouchers and they hand you a random pair? Can you request to sit together?

Arrive together at 5:00PM to the Delacorte Theatre and simultaneously hand them all 4 vouchers and ask if you can get 4-in-a-row ... doesn't guarantee it but will give you best chance.

For those who have been, what's the run time?

As others have said, Midsummer is a pretty popular and recognizable title in its own right.

I went last Saturday and it was a little under 3 hours (it started around 8:05pm and got out around 10:45-10:50).

I went yesterday and came out about 10:45pm, so I guess it's nearly 3 hours. It was probably the most energetic production I've seen and I was blown away. Go see it, it's so much fun. BTW if anyone wonders how's the standby line like, at 6pm there were about 30 in line.
