Is there any news on the progress of this movie besides the IMDB page (which can be edited by any Tom, Dick and Harry)? When I google search there's no official movie website, FB page, Twitter page... nothing

The film finished shooting in August of last year. Last I heard the plan was to submit it to festivals this fall in hopes of securing distribution for a spring release.

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

thanks for the info. I just find it strange that they don't even have any social media accounts to promote it (I understand buying a domain would cost money)

To promote the existence of a movie without a release date or festival appearances scheduled yet? Why?

they can always show behind the scenes stuff, build up interest for the movie even before they secure a distributor. who knows, having the social media pages might actually help them find a distributor.

Just imagine, for instance, that they had tweeted / instagrammed a photo of Austin McKenzie / Sarah Steele since they were recently on Bway / are on Bway in Tony-nominated / Tony-winning productions - especially all the teens/ tweens from the Spring Awakening fandom (which fits the demographic for this movie).

It would generate interest to this indie movie. I mean, it's just exposure and marketing. and using Instagram, FB, twitter etc costs NOTHING so to speak. those numbers of followers / likes might help to convince potential distributors that there is an audience for this film.

Yes, but they want to do that closer to the time when there is a film you could actually go out and see... a video that interests me now isn't necessarily going to matter if the movie came out next spring, etc.
