Taye is definitely getting paid more. But Darren is just a famous as he is, maybe even a little more relevant than Taye is with the basic b*tches who come to see the show because of Glee and his other projects.

NPH got paid the most obviously, but Taye getting paid more than Darren? why? They both aren't really THAT famous. I would consider them equal, but at least Darren was recently on tv

Is it really necessary to call Darren's fanbase that? One would think people on here wouldn't sink this low but I guess I was wrong.

Because he's TAYE DIGGS? Because he hasn't been on Broadway in over 10 years? As for Darren Criss...he's just Darren Criss.

Taye is more famous than Darren, isn't he?   He's had a longer career, has done films, and several TV shows, and is currently on one now.  I don't mean this as any offense to Darren, who was on Glee.  If I were to guess, I would think they would compensate Neil the most by a great deal, then Michael C. Hall and Taye, purely in terms of how well known the actors are to the general public.   But no one really knows.  It's anyone's guess.

"basic b*tches" . . . Just wow.  So crude and offensive.  Could say a lot more, but rather not get into it.

Darren's 12 weeks were, lowest to highest, as follows:

$390,177

$418,702 (his opening week when he only did 6 shows)

$425,224

$448,280

$456,585

$457,557

$475,996

$478,538

$479,292

$533,938

$538,938 (For what it is worth, this was NYC Pride week and the week the marriage equality ruling came down from the Supreme Court. Broadway shows overall seemed to do well this week. Several shows with an LGBTQ focus seemed to show nice bumps then.)

$681,087 (his closing week)

Darren's opening week, with just 6 shows compared to JCM's closing week with seven shows, experienced a drop of -$284,242 gross and was at 66.39% of gross compared to the prior week's 92.80% of gross. His opening week attendance capacity was 69.6%, a drop of -20.7% compared to JCM's closing week.

Taye's opening week, with just 6 shows compared to Darren's closing week with seven shows, experienced a drop of -$275,979 gross and was at 66.50% of gross compared to the prior week's 92.19% gross. His opening week attendance capacity was 92.3%, a drop of -0.6% compared to Darren's closing week.

Sorry? Not. Only a basic b*tch would take offense to that self-explanatory pseudonymous statement.

You're right. Darren is more relevant with the general public at the moment. If you were to walk up to a 16 year old girl in high school who knows completely nothing about musical theatre and ask her if she knew either Taye or Darren...she would most likely only know who Darren is. But there still is a possibility she would know who Taye was. Just not that great

Just wondering but is the state of fame the only criteria for payment? One actor might be more famous but if they have a sucky management then maybe someone who is not as famous still ends up with more $$ in their pocket.

Thanks for the numbers again, SingMeToSleep.   It looks like the average price paid for Darren's opening week was $99.62, whereas for Taye's opening week it was $72.65.  That would explain why Taye's gross % potential for his opening week was 66.50%, fairly close to Darren's gross % potential for his opening week of 66.39%, despite the fact that Taye had higher attendance than Darren during their respective opening weeks.  ZellMorrowsPledge, you know nothing about me.  But you certainly are showing your colors to everyone.

I think the more notoriety the more 0s are added to their check. And its also demand. If Beyonce's management put out a statement saying she wanted to be in a Broadway show she would narrow down which shows she would like to be in then narrow it done to whoever is offering the fattest check.

"Diggs' did well in filling the theater(6 shows only) & I'm guessing his grosses are due to give-aways.
I love the show, but I just doesn't understand why the producers are keeping ON THE TOWN open. Post a notice already."

No, not until I can see it in October!

I do wonder why An American in Paris is such a big hit, while On the Town ... isn't. They're both old-fashioned musicals with a lot of dancing, but the general consensus seems to be that OTT is the better show, with better dancing. I haven't seen either, but I'm more interested in OTT (although I like the AAIP movie better than the OTT movie).

I agree. I would see On The Town over AAIP

Why. Why don't people like OTT?  You need to backup your broad claims with some evidence...

I'm just saying from comments of a lot of people on this board. There was a good amount of people who weren't crazy about show.

LOL Taye Diggs is so much more famous than Darren Criss that it's not even funny.

So I went to see Amazing Grace last week.  Now granted, my friend and I likely brought the median age down by about 20 years (there was obviously a senior citizen tour in attendance), but the Wednesday matinee was pretty full (much more than the 56%).

Honestly, I wasn't looking forward to it after the reviews - but it wasn't nearly as bad as I expected. Was it perfect?  No ... But was it terrible?  Absolutely not.

The storyline was coherent, and the score was pleasant. The actors were all compelling, nobody "phoning in".

I get this isn't a show that everybody will love, but it does deserve better.
