Hey guys, forgive me for this promo post, but I know lots of people on this board are fans of Dave Malloy and his work, so I thought it might be cool for people to know.
I'm currently involved with a production of a brand new musical in the San Francisco area with music and lyrics by Dave Malloy. We're a non-profit youth theatre company called YMTC. Malloy used to be the artistic director at this company, and we've commissioned him and playwright, Krista Knight to write a musical for the teenage performers at YMTC.
The musical is called "Don't Stop Me," and it's about a high-school dance-a-thon gone wrong. It's a really weird, crazy and sometimes ridiculous show, but also pretty serious. Definitely not your typical high-school musical (as you might have guessed since Dave Malloy wrote the music). We're in rehearsals now and we open at the end of next week.
I wanted to post about it partly because I thought some of Malloy's fans might be interested to hear about his latest project. But also, I'm sorry to say it, to see if anyone would be interested in donating (cue eye-rolls from everyone reading this post).
We have an indie-go-go page set up, with all kinds of info about what your money would be used for (including a cast-album!), and what kind of organization we are. It would mean a lot to all of us if you donated however much you can. The link for the indie-go-go is below. I also included a link to buy tickets, for those of you who live in the Bay Area who might want to see it!
I’m so sorry to revive this old thread, I was actually looking for the old Shotgun Players thread and found this instead, but anyway…
looks like the show is getting produced again! I’m obviously a huge Malloy fan and even got to see Don’t Stop Me at Manhattan School of Music last year.
