KIMBO My guess is that it'll be the first two squarely in the lead - amid that pack, the other two very worthy nominees will be seen as too light (Something Rotten) and too dark (The Visit), with Fun Home and American in Paris striking the right balance between entertainment and art.  My heart and gut still tell me Fun Home will take it in the end, just as Gentleman's Guide (a somewhat less worthy show) was the little one that could last year.

Probably...I haven't seen The Visit yet but I believe Fun Home will take Best Musical!

No one's said anything about Robert Fairchild for leading action in American in Paris.  He got the notices and everyone was very impressed whereas caveats were raised about Peter Gallagher and, to a greater degree, the man playing the King.  Anyone else think Fairchild may be in the running?

Check the Predictions thread...I have Robert Fairchild on my list Best Actor Musical

along with Cerveris, Watanabe, d'Arcy James...Morrison

I'd be shocked if Yazbeck was overlooked. His notices were significantly better than Matthew Morrison's.

If the ability to project performance art at its highest level together with demonstrating incredible power and stamina, let alone sing and act (well), then indeed ROBERT FAIRCHILD should be the choice. However, Tony voters might have other lesser criteria.

I will say that while the Tony voters do make some bizarre choices (I will never forgive them for choosing Laura Bland Bundy over Kristin Chenoweth almost ten years ago) some times. It is harder to run BS performances past them than it is somewhere like the Oscars or the Emmys, largely I think, because they are actually obligated to watch all the shows which often results in surprising but commendable choices. So I have a lot of hope that Fairchild and Yazbeck can get in over Matthew Morrison.

That race was so crowded because not only did Kristin Chenoweth miss out, but so did Ashley Brown and while I felt she deserved the snub, Lea Michele could've been considered in the running, especially with how well received Spring Awakening was.

I do have hope that we could see someone like Fairchild and Yazbek slip in.

I really loved Yazbeck in OTT.  Such an old-fashioned, solid style performance.  Wonderful voice, and a likable character.  He plays it so well.   And "Lonely Town" and "Lucky to Be Me" are just so touching.  And he delivers on both.

Please keep in mind that the voters only vote on who gets the award, the nominators are the ones who vote on the nominations.

I still have this odd feeling that depending on how The Visit is received that we could see something like Honeymoon in Vegas sneaking into Best Musical....but I don't think I have the courage to predict it so for now I am remaining with:

An American in Paris

Fun Home

Something Rotten

The Visit

We do tend to get some random nominations from time-to-time so it will be interesting to see.

^There could also be a fifth nominee if it receives three votes or less behind the fourth nominee.

I have the same line-up, a j88, as I think many do and will have, too. I think that's the smartest prediction at this point in time, unless The Visit really underwhelms in its critical reception when it opens on April 23.

If there is a fifth nominee, I would honestly predict it to be Honeymoon in Vegas....I don't know what it is but I just feel like it would just barely slip in.
