And their website still says it's happening, but says "website coming soon." I'm thinking...it's already 2015, and I haven't heard anything about this since. Did I miss some announcement about it being cancelled?
BTW, don't worry. I know this show is a mess. However, I LOVE the score, and I've heard that the staging is beautiful. And even if the book is a disaster, I'd be curious to see exactly how much of a disaster it is.
Lol! If it's a walking tour, that's all the more reason for them to get going as soon as possible! :)
In all seriousness though, I realize it's early in 2015, but you'd think with such a big show and such a broad tour, they would have announced more of their plans by now.
Unfortunately, even if it does tour, it will never be like the original. The original stage has to be too big to tour and they would never tear out whole stages and replace them for a touring show.
The moving stage/set was the best thing about the show.
With the size of this show I am inclined to agree that further developments would have to have been made by now. Unless they have considerably scaled it down the physical production is huge and requires extensive rehearsals on the set. If it is really happening, I would expect more info between now and early March.
The original London staging was one of the most spectacular shows I've ever seen, but there is no way it could tour unless it was some sort of traveling tent set up sort of like Cirque du Soleil that didn't rely on the confines of existing theatres. I loved the show (the score is gorgeous) and I am NOT a Lord of the Rings fan. Perhaps that's why I loved it.

I think at this point it's pretty unlikely to be happening. If I had to wager a guess, I would say that plans were scrapped or "indefinitely postponed," and no one bothered to release a press statement about it. The fact that their website still says it's happening means very little. The website is probably not being updated.
Maybe perhaps they are planning to release the show again in the west end again for a limited time only. Seeing as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (the current musical at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane) is closing sometime in early 2017, perhaps the might bring LOTR musical back to the theatre for (as I said before) a limited time only seeing as the theatre is the only one in the west end that is big enough to host a show this big. But this is possibly unlikely, but it's not impossible. Who knows, perhaps it might come to Broadway for a limited time only as well.
