It will be an equity tour produced by Big league theatrical. They produced a small regional theatre tour back in 2011, so I imagine it will be a re staging of that. You can see clips from that production on YouTube.
I'm curious to know if anyone has seen the tour recently as I'm thinking of seeing it next month when it comes to my town.
Interestingly, the high school I teach at the theater company had their rights to the show pulled. We have a very strong theater program that has won regional musical theater awards. I'm assuming that Big League was afraid of some high school competition?
That's always the case when most major tours come into a region. I am catching it this weekend. While it's non-equity, I've never been disappointed by other Big League productions. I've heard it's pretty strong.
Big League is not "afraid" of anything. It is standard that when a professional production of a certain level happens, all amateur rights with a certain radius are blacked for a certain window of dates.
That may be guy2, and I'm aware of the restricted rights practice. It just seems a shame to pull rights after they've been granted to a high school and planning has taken place. I'm sure that the theater that the tour is playing in and the fact that the local high school musical theater awards is hosted at the same venue is a coincidence.
Yes, that IS a coincidence. Then again, I am sure Big League Theatricals has plenty of time and extra cash to persecute high school theatre programs. If you aware of the practice, then that should be the final line on the matter. That is what happens every time.
