I recently went to see Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and i taught the music was good and i’d like to heard more. Just wondering whats the best album to start to listen to first? Movie Soundtrack; Broadway Cast; Canadian cast? Thanks
I listen to the soundtrack version with Maria Friedman and Donny Osmond the most because it's the most complete. It has the dance music for "One More Angel" and "Those Caanan Days" and it also has the second verse in "Go, Go, Go Joseph." The megamix is a bit shorter, but that's not nessicarily a bad thing. All the other revival recordings are missing the dance music and I believe all of them use the exact same pre-recorded orchestrations, just with different vocals laid on top.
If having a more complete recording with the dance music isn't an issue for you then I'd suggest the Michael Damien one because I enjoy Kelli Rabke as the Narrator quite a bit. Overall though I don't think anyone did it better than Linzi Hateley. There's also a re-release of the Palladium recording with Linzi that has bonus tracks of the new song "King of My Heart" and "Any Dream Will Do" sung by Lee Mead from the most recent London revival.
