Mr. Kelly was dance itself, he made dance out of the things we do every day, he made us all dance in the rain, and the joy he brought to the world resonates strongly and always will. […] He is a true hero for me. - Damian Woetzel
One of the great icons of dance and screen. Cheers indeed!
Words don't deserve that kind of malarkey. They're innocent, neutral, precise, standing for this, describing that, meaning the other, so if you look after them you can build bridges across incomprehension and chaos. But when they get their corners knocked off, they're no good anymore…I don't think writers are sacred, but words are. They deserve respect. If you get the right ones in the right order, you can nudge the world a little.
My mother had gotten a job as a receptionist at a dancing school and had the idea that we should open our own dancing school; we did, and it prospered - Gene Kelly
Wyn, is it weird that seeing all of these pictures kind of breaks my heart? I often wonder what it would be like if Gene were alive today and what he would think... certain aspects of his industry have changed so drastically in the last couple of decades.
I'm in the process of viewing many films from the 40's and 50's and I have yet to get to the Gene Kelly films, but I will. It's part leisurely activity and part writing research (developing a script set in the late 40's/early 50's).
It's quite sad, the only Kelly film I've seen is his appearance in Xanadu. I had a roommate who actually loved the movie. I only sat through it because I found him very charming...yeah that's why.
FYI - Wynbish, currently watching "The Awful Truth" with Irene Dunne, just noticed it's same lady in your avatar. She's lovely .
I don't WANT to live in what they call "a certain way." In the first place I'd be no good at it and besides that I don't want to be identified with any one class of people. I want to live every whichway, among all kinds---and know them---and understand them---and love them---THAT's what I want! - Philip Barry (Holiday)
I think I should start with "The Pirate"...just cause of, you know...
