Am I the only who's hoping for Ann Harada as Mme. Thenardier.
I think that could actually be interesting. So far none of the casting "rumors" sound very interesting or inspired, but then again this is not a very interesting or inspired production IMO.

You know Harada played the role in the last revival, right?
And there's zero chance Audra is doing this.

I would be shocked if Damiano was Eponine...
I like Les Miserables, but megamusicals, especially in revival or towards the ends of long runs (I'm including "Wicked" in this list) tend to hire jobbers who specialize in megamusicals, rather than A or B list "name" actors.

Audra McDonald and her lovely husband Will Swenson are both doing Broadway on the High Seas March 20-29th of next year. Since Les Miserables would be just beginning, it wouldn't make any sense. Typically, broadway leads don't abandon a show as soon as it starts, for any reason.
Aaron Tviet will be shooting Graceland then, so he's out.
Norm Lewis as Javert. He is incredible in the part.

I'm not saying both Will and Audra would, as I can't see Audra doing this, but I feel like a lead role in a high-profile revival with a contract of at least several months would be a better gig than a 9-day cruise.

Its called breach of contract. It happens quite frequently, but incredibly costly in most situations. I am doubtful there is a provision in either Will or Audra's (especially) contract to do so with impunity.

I understand the breach of contract thing, but for some reason I didn't think a cruise would be too serious to back out of? Others (presumably bigger names) have dropped out of these cruises before, have they not? (I believe Norm Lewis and Audra McDonald dropped out of one to do Porgy and Bess). It makes sense that it would probably be more costly for Audra to drop out than her husband.
I guess my question is, if Swenson were offered Javert, as was speculated earlier in the thread, would he turn it down for a nine day cruise? Is the cruise really a sign that he's definitely out of the running, as was implied?

You don't drop out of anything directed by Seth Rudetsky! Seriously though, those cruise dates are probably booked about a year in advance and plans are made well in advance, along with contracts, etc. They don't just drop out of them. People pay $20,000 for these cruises for the talent involved. Les Miserable was announced awhile ago, I sincerely doubt he is attached to it considering his other performances this fall and his film, Facing East, will be in production this winter.

New music? Now, that's interesting, since not all revivals necessarily have new music.
Regarding a young actor playing JVJ, Ramin Karimloo was in his early thirties. However, I just can't see him in the part, physically. JVJ, to me, has to be taller, and brawny.
I think Harvey Fierstein or Nathan Lane as Thenardier would be a hoot. I also think that Mme. Thenardier could be a comedic male actor -- the reverse of a trouser role.
