Im gonna be pretty pissed if Drew Sarich doesn't reprise his role from the German production. That dude is crazy talented and this needs to be his big break!
I'm glad it's not just me who wants to see Drew do this in his native country - and language! He is a remarkable performer, and he looks amazing in the clips i have seen...
I am just curious what the target audience is for this. I love musical theater, but hate all the Rocky movies. A lot of my friends (I am from Philly) LOVE the Rocky movies and would not be caught dead in a theater seeing a musical. Just curious who is really going to go to this. Tourists?

Andy Karl is crazy talented as well and has been involved with the production for far longer. And by all accounts that I've heard from people associated with the show and who saw the German production, he was simply better in the role. I agree that Sarich is talented but IMO, this is not the best part for him to have his "big break". The powers that be have seen what both can do and if they are going with Karl, I'm sure there are reasons.
If it's true, congratulations to Andy Karl, he's been in so many shows and I'll be very happy to see him finally originate a lead in a new musical. He certainly has the Rocky "look". And for the record, I have actually heard that the musical is "better than you'd expect" from a friend who saw one of the workshops here. So...hold out hope? I'll reserve judgment until I see/hear more of the show.
gchris; I love both musical theater AND Rocky. (Although I'll make the point that I'm not totally sold on this idea.)
ANY successful show is seen by tourists. Who do you think is keeping Phantom, Mamma Mia, Lion King and Wicked alive? Locals? Theater people? No. Tourists.
If the masses don't want to see your show, it ain't gonna run. (Not for long, anyway.)
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
yes, I understand the whole Lion King, Phantom, Mamma Mia, Jersey Boys thing. I am just wondering, who thought this might be a good idea? I am hearing good things through the grape vine from a relative stationed in Germany. Then again, I heard early music from Kinky and thought to myself, this is never going to be good, and look what happened. So I guess yo never know.
I think most of us have sort of been expecting Andy Karl (and he certainly has the look and talent). Granted, I won't lament if Drew comes over, either. He did stellar job when I saw him in Hamburg - awkward, gentle, dangerous, funny. Either way, I'm looking forward to taking the fam to see this next year. Though this time I'm getting mezz seats...
