So this is going to be the revised and expanded Hedwig that was talked about a few years ago, and not the one-man-show concert version traditionally performed?
Not every performance is for every theater goer. I used Foster in ANYTHING GOES as an example of someone overcoming being miscast and managing to get raves (from most critics who admitted she was miscast in the same breath in which they praised her work) and a Tony along the way. I didn't say there weren't detractors to her performance.

Isn't the Hayes committed to Second Stage after ROCK OF AGES? Or do I misunderstand the current status of that agreement...
Words don't deserve that kind of malarkey. They're innocent, neutral, precise, standing for this, describing that, meaning the other, so if you look after them you can build bridges across incomprehension and chaos. But when they get their corners knocked off, they're no good anymore…I don't think writers are sacred, but words are. They deserve respect. If you get the right ones in the right order, you can nudge the world a little.
Well this is disappointing- a great show with a self-indulgent star. This is anything but, "camp" so it will be interesting to see if he can restrain himself- or if the director can pull him back. I'll wait for his replacement- paging Stark Sands!
Harris's German accent sounds convincingly fake, which I've always thought is rather an endearing part of the Hedwig character. JCM's Hedwig sounded as much like John Cale and Lou Reed as he did anyone actually German.
I'd argue that it had a twinge of John Lennon to it as well, at least in the film. "Origin of Love" and parts of "Midnight Radio" sound like a Lennon vocal.
It's one of my favorite shows and I honestly think he will surprise everyone.
He's known of course for comedy and genial hosting duties, but he's an immensely talented performer. Just because someone's persona doesn't match a role doesn't mean anything.
I doubted NPH would make a good Bobby and didn't think he could handle the score. After proving me very wrong I'm excited to see what he will do with Hedwig. The score is perfection and it will be nice to hear these songs in a Broadway theater.
Marie: Don't be in such a hurry about that pretty little chippy in Frisco.
Tony: Eh, she's a no chip!
I'm not even going to address the "misery" comment- it's an opinion, we all got 'em! I just don't think he's right for this role. No one seems to complain when Patti is called self indulgent- NPH comes off as smug and arrogant and way too full of himself- even when he hosts with Kelly Ripa! Moving on, I think Jessie Mueller as his co-star would be amazing! Hedwig as a character is deeper than just self indulgent, that's an oversimplification of the character as a whole. Stark Sand has edge- watch Die Mommy Die or an American Idiot bootleg! He's a better actor than NPH and arguably a better vocalist- he's got an edge to his voice that someone like, Santino Fontana doesn't have- they'll never be up for the same roles, dreamy male ingenues that they are, they're not the same type- that's my point. Fontana was just a more accessible answer for all those teenage girl posters.
Booth: If/Then is there in the Spring Hayes: 2St gains control once ROA leaves, but that doesn't look to be happening for awhile Circle: Will be free because Soul Doctor will be gone by the end of summer.
