On Shout Factory's website, they have "Annie: The Broadway Musical" listed to come out on July 2. The CD will still be available at the theater and on the Annie official website by May.
I am very excited for this album! I loved the production and can't wait to add this to my collection!
I'm happy that they finally edited the logo to read "The Musical" instead of "A New Musical," which it kept on its logo off-and-on for about thirty years.
Excited they are adding the Jane Lynch songs [as most say Katie has been lackluster in the role.] I am really sad the CD has been pushed back; I was really looking forward to getting it in a few weeks.
Looks like it's gonna be a pretty complete recording. I'm very excited and I can't wait to get it!

I do feel a little bad for Katie Finneran. If I want to, I can change my iTunes, so that I get an Annie recording with only Jane Lynch...I feel like they are diminishing Finneran's contributions, in a way.
"Ok ok ok ok ok ok ok. Have you guys heard about fidget spinners!?" ~Patti LuPone
Katie has gotten anything but phrase for her performance. I wonder if the producers felt that adding Lynch's tunes would a] obviously sell more copies and b] allow people to replace Katie's versions with Jane's.
I've yet to hear Katie's performance [except for the brief time of her video before the producers took it down] so maybe she's improved?
Katie IS coming back to Annie after the two month break, isn't she? She is just going off to do another job - just like Sutton Foster did at Anything Goes. She came back.
I don't mind Jane being on the album - more sales is good for everyone..but I am sad the album's release got delayed because of it.
The album was not delayed at all...with a few hundred albums under his belt (and 12 Grammys on his shelf) album producer Thomas Z. Shepard did a magnificent job.
Final mixing was completed about 4 weeks after the cast recorded on March 11, and mastering was almost complete when we were able to record Jane in Los Angeles on April 8. So the timing was perfect and we were able to include her 3 tracks on the album on schedule. It will be on-sale at The Palace Theatre and on the show website around May 10 and pre-orders can be taken there, or at the link below.
I walked by the Palace theater today where they have been playing the original cast recording of Annie over the loudspeakers since October. But today, I heard the new cast recording..and it sounded great (even with all the traffic noises in the back). I had to stand there and listen for a bit.
They seem to be playing some of the tracks but not all. I heard "Getting a New Deal for Christmas" & "Easy Street" a few times along with the overture..but I didn't hear "Maybe" or "..Fully Dressed without a Smile" at all. Of course, I only stayed there 15 minutes and then I had to go.
Excellent that you were able to notice the difference between the recordings, even with the noise of Times Square! The entire recording sounds wonderful!
That was not hard at all. Anthony has such a beautiful distinctive voice and I heard him first as I was walking by. Then the rhythms of "New Deal" are a big jazzier than the original version and that's what really clinched it for me. I am glad to hear we will still be able to get the new version at the theater in May before it goes out to the general public in July.
The orchestrations by Michael Starobin, Alex Lacamoire & Doug Besterman are spectacular, as is this cast. You can walk in an pre-order at the Theatre. We're hoping that the Times Square shops stock early as well.
The link on Amazon just went live too (ignore the $21.95 MSRP - that's an Amazon quirk that will self-correct when the first orders post - and the cover art will appear soon too)
1. Is the version Jane did of 'Little Girls' the same as the one on the cd? 2. Will there be sound samples anytime soon of the CD? 3. I recently saw a string of Annie commercials, and I was wondering if they featured the cast recording in them.
thanks!
just paid almost $40 to get this album when its release May 10th. Dedicated fan.
$40?? where??? you ARE dedicated. It's $25 at the theatre and on the Annie show website!
1. Is the version Jane did of 'Little Girls' the same as the one on the cd? IF you mean the version that she sang on GLEE, no. The CD recording is of Jane, in character as Miss Hannigan, and it's hysterical and wonderful.
2. Will there be sound samples anytime soon of the CD? Yes, Amazon will have them shortly, as will iTunes, and the show website will also have a sample or two soon. For those who don't walk past the Palace Theatre!
3. I recently saw a string of Annie commercials, and I was wondering if they featured the cast recording in them. Yes indeed...the new animated commercials use the new Cast Album tracks for Tomorrow, It's The Hard Knock Life, and I Don't Need Anything But You.
thanks!
