Bring it on! the Musical? |
It's on tour most likely headed for a Broadway production. I'm seeing it next month.
"What can you expect from a bunch of seitan worshippers?" - Reginald Tresilian
I saw Bring it on in LA. I was interesting, wasn't a big fan of the story. Some of the songs were cool. You could tell that it was a Lin-Manuel Miranda project (I do like his style). I went becuz a friend had an extra ticket, not sure if I would of bought a ticket to see the show. Will I see the show again? Probably not, was I glad I saw it....yah kind of.
I do give props to the cast tho, I can't believe they do those stunts 8 times a week.

I honestly don't think (or hope for the sake of whoever is going to put up that much money) it will transfer to Broadway, at least not a production that looks anything like what it is now. I LOVE both In the Heights and Next to Normal, but I saw the show in Houston and was severely underwhelmed - there's not a memorable moment, character, or song in the whole show. Every song is the same generic, upbeat pop song, except for two(?) rap segments where for a moment things actually got interesting. There were some funny bits and amazing stunts, but that's about it. The show was hugely popular with the crowds of cheerleaders (many wearing their uniforms) in the audience though.
The show was also immensely popular in LA with an older and distinctly non-cheerleader crowd. Personally, I found it to be MUCH better than I was expecting it to be. Broadway? Tough call.
Faced with these Loreleis, what man can moralize!
I had the unfortunate experience of seeing it opening night in Los Angeles. The songs were forgettable, the characters were bland, underdeveloped, and I was particularly offended by the numerous cliches and stereotypes of everyone (gay, boy next door, girl next door, mean girls, fat girl, poor black and latino kids, rich white kids). Mind you, the latter (poor black kids and rich white kids) was well done and humorous in the original Bring It On film. Here? No. I hope that they save themselves the embarrassment and put this show out of its misery.
Well, have you guys seen Legally Blonde: the Musical? Because i'm thinking that they're pretty much the same... but Legally blonde was great... if it is then i might think about seeing it.? Have yall seen legally blonde the musical?
And However Would You know that...? I mean it Came On MTV Everyday.. so yeah..
Updated On: 2/16/12 at 02:33 PMIMO Legally Blonde was much better - funnier, catchier/better written songs, and more likeable characters.
Why are you comparing it with Legally Blonde? They are not remotely alike.

I admit it's kinda interesting melding the composers of In the Heights and Nextto Normal--is it obvious who wrote what?
As for Legally Blonde compairons--this one actually isn't directly based on the story of the film, is it? I got the impression it just sorta took the cliches and setup. Most of the reaction I've read has been mildly to pleasantly surprised.

The official word is that Kitt & Green wrote for the white kids and Miranda for the urban kids, but rumor has it that there was some crossover (both directions) as well.
Im not comparing. how can i compare when i havent even seen bring it on the musical. I was basically asking is the like the energy of the songs alike and the musical numbers thats all... I was asking were the alike. obviously.

Remember, much as you may hate the idea, you will be judged, in your life, by the way you express yourself.

Re the Kitt/Miranda issue, newintown states it correctly. The problem is that Miranda's style is instantly recognizable and Kitt's is not. Hence a lot of people - me, for instance - come away saying it sounded like a Lin-Manuel Miranda show.
