I really hope they change that ugly artwork! Ragtime did for Broadway. I hope Follies does.

According to BWW, Elaine Paige is not transferring. I hope they find someone better than her. I hated her performance of "I'm Still Here."

Yay to FOLLIES, yay to no Elaine Paige (Can't stand her for anything in the world). Does anyone know if this is a limited engagement? And if it is, when are they thinking about closing? I imagine it'll last at least through the Fall, that's all I need.

Broadway World is jumping the gun and assuming Paige isn't transferring because she wasn't announced in this initial press release.

Per usual, I would venture to guess they're wrong. Considering Carlotta hasn't been listed in any of the casting breakdowns, I imagine Paige will be continuing on to Broadway with the show.

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

DAMN! I'll be missing this by TWO DAYS!!!

Blah, sad news. But it's FOLLIES after all, even Paige's involvement can't bring me down.
Thanks for the heads up, Ljay, so glad I'll be able to see this in the Fall, was so sad I had to miss the DC engagement.

I'm surprised that the Kenendy Center appears to be the sole producer of the Broadway run.

Question for those who might know...is it possible to recoup $7.3 million in 5 months? Seems like a tough task, unless they completely sell out every performance at full price, which seems doubtful. Does the KC think they're going to make money off of this, or are they doing it more for the prestige?

I agree regarding Elaine Paige and I actually like her! Also was not too thrilled with Linda Lavin's rendition of Broadway Baby.

..and, since my post, Broadway World has removed the information from their article claiming Paige was amongst those not continuing with the show.

Typical.

Ok, I MIGHT be able to see this :)...questionsss:

* What is this audience reward thing? Will you guys be buying tickets with it or waiting until they are on sale officially?

* Where did you find the rear mezz cost of $55?

Thanks!!!

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

According to BWW's grosses, when Wonderland was at the Marquis, the maximum potential weekly gross was $1,432,024, and I'm going to guess it'll be roughly the same when Follies is there. I wouldn't even be able to hazard a guess at the weekly running costs with a cast and orchestra of over 60 people (and some players who garner a pretty sizable salary).

I would guess it'd be nearly impossible to recoup $7 million in five months.

When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain. -Kad

You have to be a member, but it's free to join. At the moment, there is no information about Follies on their website, which is odd, since this presale starts tomorrow.

I really like this art -- but the image of the man on the right side STILL looks like an old image I've seen of Ronald Reagan. Bugs.

Part of the presentation on Ticketmaster ! Part of the question about Elaine Paige ? :

"The Kennedy Center's brand-new production of this iconic masterwork was standing room only this summer. Now, this lavish and landmark new staging of Stephen Sondheim and James Goldman's Tony Award-winning Best Musical FOLLIES comes to Broadway for an historic limited engagement, complete with its 28-piece orchestra and a cast of 40 - led by such Broadway babies as two-time Tony winner Bernadette Peters, four-time Tony nominee Jan Maxwell, five-time Olivier Award nominee Elaine Paige, two-time Tony nominee Danny Burstein, and three-time Emmy nominee Ron Raines."

Part of the reason that not all the cast has been announced it that not all the contracts have been finalized and signed by everyone from the Kennedy Center company.

At least as of today.
