I was looking the show up on ibdb and there's a revival listed in 1952 that played for only 8 performances at The Broadway Theatre. I had no idea the show came back only a few months after it's original closing. Does anyone have any info on this? I'm wondering why was it revived so soon.
The 3d film of the movie came out in 1952. Could this be the premiere that has been mis-identified as a live performance? They often rented a Broadway house back then for premieres.
As per "The Oxford Companion to the American Musical," this was a tour brought to Broadway as a return engagement at popular prices and zero audience interest.
Thanks! How odd that they would bring the show back to such an enormous house only a fee months after closing. I can't imagine interest would have been that great especially with no names to bring people back to it.
This was a pretty common thing to do back then. National tours of recent Broadway hits would come to Broadway after the tour was over, usually for limited engagements.
