Lea Michele needs to get off the stage and screen. I've had enough.

I certainly did not mean anything anti anything I was using it as a comparison between Barbra and lea...remember " is a nose of deviation such a crime against the nation' is in the score.
I never think of any one culture as having a big nose..So I apologize to anyone who took offense I am irish and come from a long line of long crooked noses LOL...so It didnt even dawn on me...as for starting the Message I just wanted to see why she is so popular I saw her on the Tonys and she was average at best singing Dont Rain on my Parade....jsut my humble opinion and again to any people I offended NOT WHAT I INTENDED

I would love to see Lea Michelle in Funny Girl. I don't know if her contractual obligations with Glee would allow it at this point.

All I'll say is that I'm of the thinking that whenever a specific person (Lea) is overhyped as a possible "Fanny", then said person will possibly lose momentum. Lea Michele is talented, but has some significant baggage. She is believed to be a major "b.o.w." by quite a few people. That might not be a hindrance to being cast, but it doesn't help either. In any case, she has a contract with "Glee". Based on that, I don't think Lea Michele will be a "Fanny", unless it's during a hiatus from filming "Glee." Kisses.... from RC in Austin, Texas

"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)

I don't think casting an unknown is a mistake--tourists will see the show because it's Funny Girl, stunt casting or not and it will get a lot of hype because it's Funny Girl--if they cast an incredible unknown actress, between the publicity the show will already receive and the draw a revival of a popular musical has, the unknown may well become a "known"--that's how Julie Andrews did it.

Personally, I think Lea Michele is talented but they could do better.

I think folks need to seriously get over their hate for Lea Michele. Don't like her fine but some people feel the need to attack. Anyway most of this is all coincidence. She was told to sing a song on the show, she did it in concert just about the same time the revival was mentioned and the Tonys. Of course people will suggest her. It isn't her fault. and if they ask her about it she has to answer.

It probably won't happen so no need to get your panties in a bunch over it. And if it happens you don't have to go.

Lea Michele may be around awhile people so let the hate go and try to ignore it if you don't like her. But the hate seems unreasonable for someone you don't even have to know or deal with. Also in the show they compare her with Barbra as a joke and even joked her rendition didn't have the emotion of Barbra so time to let that go too.

They will probably go with an unknown for Fanny.

I am NOT a fan of Lea Michele. She is talented, yes, but she isn't the Second Coming & there are many more performers out there who have more more talent and charm. I agree with those who ddi not like her Tony performance. For me, screaming through a song is not the same as "belting". I feel she screamed.

She has a terrible reputation for being difficult and that's too bad. As has been said before, be nice to the people you meet on the way up because they're the same people you'll meet on the way down. Besides, what producer wants to be bothered with someone with limited box office appeal who is also high maintenance?

I think she could sing the score well enough, my concern is whether or not she can pull off the comedy, and whether or not she can create the star quality that Brice had, that made her a star against type. That said, if Funny Girl is going to be revived, a girl of her age, looks, and talent would be a moron not to actively campaign for it. It would be a once in a lifetime opportunity, and she'd be nuts to let it pass without doing everything in her power to land the part.

I'm sorry but Linda Eder is the only noteworthy person you can even begin to compare with Streisand. So let's try to get Linda Eder back on a Broadway stage and forget about this Glee child.

As much as I like Linda Eder, I'd much rather see her in a concert setting than in a show. The person I think needs to be back on a Broadway stage is Judy Kuhn.

I know Linda will probably never show up in a musical again. I've seen her in concert several times and she makes it pretty clear she dislikes the grind of a musical's schedule. Her voice is flawless-she has such gorgeous tone and phrasing when she sings. Her diction is flawless.

That's why you can't compare Lea Michele to a Stresiand or an Eder. Her screaming and "choppy" (earlier post) version of Funny Girl at the Tonys did nothing for me. There was little to no star quality or refinement IMO.

Again, I'm not sure if she's right for the part, but I'd cut her a TON of slack for the Tony performance. It had to be difficult-to-impossible to hear the music, plus she was cutting in from Morrison's number, and she had to play to both a camera in her face as well as the cavernous Radio City. The history of Tony performances at Radio City include more misses than hits, and I'd be reluctant to write her off because of it.

Madbrian, I totally hear you. As soon I noticed she had to walk down an aisle at Radio City to the stage while singing THAT song, I thought, "bless your heart Ms. Michele". She did well with the song but she almost oversold it, and I know that sounds impossible with a song like that.

She actually is a perfect fit for a revival of Funny Girl in the current Broadway market where they want someone "hot" on stage to get asses in the seats.

What Lea will have to overcome is her teenybopper status. She is now viewed as a "teen star" with a teen demographic. Her tenure in Spring Awakening doesn't help that. Her fanbase is teens who will grow tired of her in record time and she will need to re-establish herself as viable. I think she is incredibly talented but just needs to refine herself and not burn out during her teen mega-stardom.

I think she's very, very talented but part of the problem, if there is indeed one, is that she's all too aware of that fact. Girl has a very healthy ego.

I actually like the recorded version of "Don't Rain."

And I'm more distracted by her teeth than any other physical feature. They're like Chiclets.

This thread is hilarious. I love all the sock puppetry for and against this girl.

Madbrian, you are SO right about Ms. Kuhn...let's hope she's in talks for Mrs. Danvers in "Rebecca".

I'm personally in favor of casting a) SJB or b) an unknown actress. As much as I like Lea, I don't think she's the right choice right now. Maybe in a couple years, she'll find her own interpretation of the part. Who knows? With Leslie Kritzer, I really like her, but I don't think she can carry the show. Just my opinion.

I agree with madbrian's points.
I can understand not liking her (no I can't) but to say she has no talent is simply ridiculous! I think she would make an okay Fanny Brice. She seems to take direction quite well, but I'm not sold on her comedic talent yet, but maybe that's just me?

In any case has she been offered the role? She said she would like to play Fanny. So would many other people. What's your point? There are so many people who would murder this role if given the chance. I don't think she would be the best choice for the role, but I don't think she'd be the worst.

Thanks for sharing that link, kchenofan. I thought she sounded pretty stunning.

I agree with those that have pointed out how ridiculous the hate for this girl is. People that weren't fans of her in Spring Awakening are clearly livid that she has received such a level of national popularity AND acclaim already.

I also love me some Leslie Kritzer, but you're kidding yourselves if you think she can carry a show like Funny Girl...on Broadway...in economic times like these. Just don't see that being a success outside the hardcore theatre fans she has.
