I know we should be honored to have you show up at the TONY event bur if you are going to wear a jogging suit and Yankee cap can you at least shave???? I don't expect the guy to wear a tuxedo but show some class and humility for Christs sake
I didn't so much mind the party for Fences. That's him. But this? there were others who had to dash to do matinee performances. The shaving thing could be due to his role. actually at first i thought he was in a nice leisure like suit, but then i looked againg. oaf!! he is going to get a rep of being up himself, if he doesn't already. i like Denzel though.
Glad to know I'm not the only one who feels this way...especially after I was attacked because of my comments about his opening night attire.
"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe."

Even Sondheim, Broadway royalty. Who Hates dressing up wears a jacket to these events. It just shows a lack of effort and caring. It doesn't mean that much
I agree. I don't expect tuxedos, but at least a jacket or sports coat would be nice, and no baseball hat. Dressing appropriately is a sign of respect for the event.
I looked at the others. Next most informal is Chris Fitzgerald but even he has a jacket. Come on Sweats and a baseball cap? How can anyone say that's fine?
I highly doubt that Washington is shooting his carrier in the foot by dressing like this to the Tonys luncheon. I mean, it's not like he will have trouble booking another gig after Fences because of how he dressed for this. I don't see the big deal.

Had I showed up to an event like this or even the opening night looking like him, my mother would have killed me. He could have at least worn a jacket and taken the cap off. He wasn't on the set of a movie or just being stopped for an interview after jogging. He was at an event because he is nominated for the highest award in theatre. Show just a bit of respect. JMO
i understand that it's such a high honor, and it's nice that so many people do dress up but there isn't a dress code for this. i want to just say that he's denzel and he can do whatever on earth he wants to do, but seriously if he feels comfortable in a track suit so be it. he will obviously wear a suit to the tonys, but he didn't offend the organizers of the party beacuse they let him in.
think about it this way tho..at least it's a Nike track suit!

And doesn't Tiger promote Nike? Oh wait, that's another thread!
I see what you are saying, and maybe it is just a generational thing but I couldn't go to an event like that, even if it was a lunch, and be interviewed in a ball cap. I think just the thrill and importance of being there because I was nominated would make me want to at least look good if not my best. or "presentable" as my mother would have said!
I don't want to start a whole new thread, but I'm not a fan of this photo coverage. Way too close-up. It made it look like yearbook picture day, especially with the blue curtain background.
