I am going to New York in December during winter break and would love to see West Side Story. I'm planning to do the lottery with 3 other people. What are our chances of winning?

WSS is one of the hardest lottos because they give out so few tickets. But your chances may be decent since there are three of your putting in your names. At the same time that's a big time for kids to be home from college so the amount of people putting their names in could be larger than it would be now.

And two of you would need to win so that all of you could go. If you aren't going xmas week, and are going DURING the week, you will have less 'competition.'

Chicago has an easy rush.

As of right now NIGHT MUSIC is only going to offer standing room.

I've heard Finian's Rainbow rush is pretty easy to get too. Also, if you don't mind sitting in the balcony, you can get tickets for $25 on Wednesday evenings.

Not to be rude, but how are we going to know your chances for next month around the holidays?

I can understand people's desire to know how busy a rush or lotto has been lately, but honestly, if you want to try a certain rush or lotto, just do it. Just because hundreds of people show up to the West Side Story lotto doesn't mean you are going to lose. Yeah, it'll be more difficult to win, but you have as much of a chance as everyone else.

So, now because you hear that it is is a difficult win, you are just going to skip it, then expect us to predict how busy seven other rushes/lottos are? Pick something you are interested and just go with it. I have been to lottos with not that many people and lost. On the other hand, I have been to lottos with many people and won.

Also, the number of people who rush some of these shows now may vary greatly by the time December rolls around. Not to mention, you are going around the holiday season, so what is going on now may not even be accurate for the future.

It's just I rarely get to come to New York, and Im only going to be there for like 3 days, and would just like to go to a lotto/rush in which I have the best chance of winning. I don’t don't want to risk losing a lottery and then one Broadway night to my trip would be wasted.

Newsflash: You run the risk of losing ANY lottery. That's why it's called lottery.

But you have a better chance of winning depending on what show your seeing.

And? You could try the "hardest" and win, and the "easiest" and lose. Hope none of your Broadway nights are ruined.

Maybe you'd enjoy going to Vegas too. Lots of gambling there.

Like others who have already replied to this thread, I've lost very "easy" lottos and won very "hard" ones. Any lottery is a risk. If you really want to be sure to see the shows you want to see, buy cheap seats in the back ahead of time.

Yes, all lottos are a 'risk' (unless obviously seats>entries), but statistically some lotteries *ARE* easier to win.

It's probably (well definitely) not a good thing to assume you will win any lottery, but I think it is wiser to try lottos you are more likely to win...

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? If you're only coming for 3 days, buy cheap tickets and stop trying to predict every lotto a month and a half ahead of time. And posting in several different threads.

Seriously, no one knows.

Exactly. Especially if you never get to come to NYC and you are that desperate to see shows, go buy your tickets in advance. And there are cheap options that aren't rush/lotto.

Now rush will be slightly easier since your chances depend what time you get there, but lotto is never a guarantee.

And as I said before, I don't have an issue when people ask how busy certain lottos are, but sometimes I feel as if people think we have some sort of crystal ball and can see into the future about how likely they'll win. Based on two replies, you decided not to even attempt the West Side Story rush.
