Thanks Winston and POL - I thought Coney Island had gone years ago! The pics Mamma posted a while ago made it look derelict. Is that how it looks now?
I am looking forwad to seeing this in April though I originally got the ticket more as an oddity. I hope it achieves some success. There are a lot of people that will be out of work soon otherwise.
This is a common picture of the Coney Island landscape today. The only thing that is different is that most of the amusement park features on the right are gone. Of course the Cyclone is still there.
That park is was called Astroland Amusement Park and closed a couple of summers ago. The Cyclone was part of Astroland. However, now that that park closed down this past summer was the first summer it ran as its own thing. With admissions being charged to ride the roller coaster and not have it be associated with any of the parks.
Interestingly enough, there has been some ongoing debate for awhile about if they should just demolish the entire thing and make way for apartment buildings etc or try to revitalize the area.
I remember that there had been some discussion every year about how if a current given summer would have been the last for Coney Island. However, it always seemed that it would go on for another year. The beach, is very disgusting and old and mucky. Hell, the sand there is black at most parts. And, Astroland, the one of two remaining parks closed down at the end of summer 2008. When looking for pictures to show you, I found out that there is in fact going to be another park built. I am guessing in the same area of land that Astroland once stood in called Luna Park. Luna Park was one of the original parks at Coney Island and in fact, in Sydney Australia there is a park that is a replica of that one in style and in name as well.

Sorry Princeton, having a problem understanding your second to last post, should it be incredible opening, tecnical problems 10 minutes in, ALW had a stool.
Coney island a lovely promenade, that leads to a incredible aquarium. behind that is a **** hole (again refrence ALW had a stool).
The place is a dive, just like Blackpool. I still cant believe I wasted an entire afternoon going out there to see the place. Actually Blackpool is far better maintained. Updated On: 2/22/10 at 03:34 PM
Against my better judgement, I have now booked to see this on May 26th. Having paid that insane price, if it turns out to be crap, I may jump off the Jubilee bridge after the show.lol

Yes I saw that. Can't say I fell off my chair. Not exactly sure why it happens but it seems a bit like: well, I've brought them all together, what do I do with them now?
ALW has acknowledged in interviews that 'Woman in White' didn't work because of the book. I thought he'd make sure this time that the story would be, at the least, very dramatic. He said at the press conference for LND that the previous ending of POTO was 'weak' i.e. the Phantom just disappeared into thin air and he thought he'd have people asking for their money back.
