Yazbek's lyrics for "Nothing is too Wonderful to Be True" transform from beautiful to hilarious. I adore that song, especially the contrast melody/lyric for Freddy.
It was a shame he changed the opening number for the tour. It really was a lesser song.
And I think Jerry Mitchell's choreography was wonderful.
"Here I Am" has to be one of my favorite showtunes out there.
I saw Hewitt's first public performance in the role, so I'm unsure if he was under rehearsed or what. I've enjoyed his work before, but he was very stiff in the role and lacked the ease of Lithgow.
Don't know if I miss it, exactly, but I will say that when I saw "Boeing Boeing" I thought that Rylance and Whitford were a pale comedy team compared to Butz and Pryce. They were a duo for the ages. Updated On: 6/23/08 at 07:19 AM
I was lucky enough to see this 2 or three times; once w/ the OBC. I first saw it the same week that I saw La Cage and Spamalot. I think it was officially still in previews.
I really loved it and was dissappointed in the mixed reviews from so many. I thought it would last MUCH longer.
But do I 'miss' it? Nah. I'm not sure there is any show I actually "miss"...they can't last forever. I'm more dissappointed when a show leaves before I get around to seeing it.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
I cant wait for MTI to release the rights for this show. I always felt both this (and 'Curtains' now that its closing) have great potential in regional theatres and community theatre.
