I saw it last night. I was completely floored by it. Deirdre O’Connell does more with sitting alone in a chair for 75 minutes than most actors do with a full stage and two acts. One of the best, most human performances I’ve ever seen. The story itself is astonishing enough, but Lucas Hnath and Les Waters’s conceit is truly incredible.

Do not miss this.

For those who have seen it:

Would you mind telling what the structural conceit of the show is? Is it written as if she is talking to Lucas or another unseen character? Or is she speaking directly to the audience as an audience? Is she recounting a single story, or telling a variety of stories and/or talking about her thoughts, beliefs, etc?

She's being interviewed by another theater-maker, who you hear on the recording from time to time. There are projections to explain it all.  She's just telling the story of her 5 month kidnapping.

That being said, I absolutely loved it. Deirdre O'Connell was amazing.I cannot recommend this enough.

A little swash, a bit of buckle - you'll love it more than bread.

I couldn’t agree more with Brantley’s rave for this show. Lucas Hnath is really proving himself to be an unmissable playwright. I thought the entire production was truly astonishing. Simple, yet so moving and chillingly effective. Don’t miss it.

Bumping this having finally seen it today.
Do not miss it. Deirdre O'Connell is extraordinary.
It's a perfectly constructed story and Dana is very much present.

Hopping on the positive review train. Dana H. is stunning. I didn't love everything (I kept wondering why the voiceover rather than having Deirdre speak the lines, especially since it's so impossible for her to sync perfectly), but when I was loving it I was absolutely floored. All of Part 2 rocked my core, particularly the sound design that builds to that amazing shift. In regards to this piece in tangent with The Thin Place, I feel like Lucas Hnath and Les Waters are really dipping their toes in some exciting uncharted territory, but the style choices aren't perfect yet by any means and with further exploration they could really break through to some incredible theatre. But this one is an exciting watch for sure, and makes Hnath and Waters a team not to be missed in the future.
