"Thats the Freedom Trail. Thats where it all started right here. And were not going to have a company, Chick-fil-A or whatever the hell the name is, on our Freedom Trail."

I am wondering if you are smart enought to recognize the contradiction in what you are saying. You celebrate the Freedom Trail while at the same time celebrating a government official banning a buisness because he disagrees with their position on gay marriage. If you (or Mayor Menino) don't agree with that business's stance on a certain issue, then don't patronize that business. However, the owners of said business have every right to argue for their point of view. And I did not see anywhere that Chick Fil A was refusing to serve gay clientele or refusing to hire gay people. Remember, one of the primary rights those freedom fighters fought for was free speech. Somehow ironic that the mayor of a city like Boston (where the Freedom Trail is a large tourist attraction) would do something that the freedom fighters of yore in his city fought so hard to condemn.
BTW, do you know the political leanings of ALL the businesses you patron? What about the political leanings or beliefs of the Broadway actors you pay money to see??
just wondering.

The comments are indeed odious and offensive in the extreme. But at least we can calm ourselves with the knowledge that those type of people are quickly becoming the minority.

Mikey, there used to be a boycott call every 15 minutes in the gay community: Coors beer, Miller beer, Budweiser beer, Domino's pizza, Checkers Burgers, Arby's, Lucky's markets, Ralph's markets, Gap, Target & WalMart- all it took was one drunk queen to be refused service and we had to drive the hate mongers out of our community. It got wearying.

And you're right- you never know. That guy who runs the meat market might call me faggot after he wraps my succulent pork chops.

But I KNOW what Chick-Fil-a does. They actively work at hating me. They donate to hate groups that work to deny me basic rights. When you ask them about it they don't beat around the bush: They think I am wrong, biblically wrong and put their millions of dollars where their mouth is. So screw em. I don't "Boycott them" I just don't go there. Wendy's Chicken sandwiches are great. And who knows- Wendy's might hate me to. But they aren't actively working against me. So I'll go there.

JOekv99, you are making a logical decision. You see a restaurant advocating something you don't like so you don't eat there. That is exactly what I was saying. The only thing I would be critical of in your post was your assumption that those who are against gay marriage (or pro-traditional marriage) HATE you or gay people. I believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman. I believe in Civil Unions for others. But I certainly don't hate gay people. I have had many friends in my life who are gay, and I have taught students who have turned out to be gay. HATE is something I save exclusively for people who are EVIL; not for people who simply DISAGREE with me.

The organizations Chick Fil A gives money to don't believe in any recognition of gay relationships. It's not like they just have a problem with the word marriage. Groups like Focus on the Family (and others) aren't concerned about the word marriage; they are concerned with making life difficult for gay and lesbian Americans, because those gay and lesbian Americans don't want to be forced to make the same religious choices Truett Cathy and all that think like him do. That sounds like hate to me. At the very least, supreme dickheadery.

If people really believed that marriage was unshakable concept of one man married to one woman, shouldn't all these websites be getting death threats?

Traditional marriage is the purchase of a woman to add to your tribe or the sale of your daughter to a wealthy landowner for some goats or a cow. I think you are referring to western world, late 20th century marriage, Mikey.

We need an app with GPS tracking to map nearby businesses we're supposed to boicott or womyncott as well as flag LGBTQIARSUVWXYZ-approved businesses. How are we supposed to remember all this stuff?

You can read the news. Or you can watch "The Newsroom" next season and they'll probably be able to recap what happened and tell you how the media should have responded.

I believe in Civil Unions for others

And you're a teacher?

Please teach your students that civil unions are NOT the legal equivalent of marriage.

Please teach your students that one state's civil union is invalid in any other state. That's right: invalid.

Please teach your students that there are 1,138 federal rights and privileges that accompany marriage and an additional 300-600 per individual state.

Please teach your students that none of these 1,400-1,700 rights apply to civil unions.

Please teach your students that what you condescendingly agree to call "civil unions" are no better than the separate-but-"equal" water fountains that were once found throughout the South.

Please teach your students why gays and lesbians consider civil unions insulting.

Please learn these things yourself.

Please promise me that you will never, EVER utter the phrase "I believe in Civil Unions for others" without hearing PalJoey say "No, that's a piece of SH*T, thank you."

Not to mention that most "traditional marriage" groups don't believe in ANY legal recognition for gay relationships.

That's like saying "I don't think that black people should go to the same school as me but I'm not racist".

Imagine if a group in this country was founded to strip away (or prevent them from getting in the first place) rights of relgious people. That would be considered a hate-group, right? Why is it okay when religious people form groups to dismantle the rights of others?

I do think there's a difference between just a random boycott due to one franchise's server, and a company that seems to be proud of making their point. If they are so public about it, so should their potential customers.

Considering Mikey can't even get a date, he's the last one who should be talking about marriage.

Rush Limbaugh is going to have a FIELD DAY with this. I wonder how he's going to attribute the creation of the Muppets with Obama's campaign.

Does the Henson Company have anything to do with the Muppets anymore?

I'm being completely serious. I was under the understanding that they sold everything to do with the Muppets to Disney. Regardless, I love the graphic (and posted it to my facebook page).

It's my understanding that the Hensons create and author the Muppets, and that Disney does the marketing, merchandise, and is more of a "creative consultant."

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Huckadouche has stated that August 1st should be CFA appreciation day. So all good Christians should be sure to take part.

#49Chick-Fil-A is introducing a new sandwich!
Posted: 7/24/12 at 11:14am

"The Queer-Hatin' Cordon Bleu is our company's way of showing our firm commitment to strong, Christian family values," said Chick-fil-A spokesman Robert Gary, before adding that the vehemently anti-gay rights sandwich comes served in a combo with waffle fries and a medium soda for just $6.95. "From the very first morsel of this savory meal to the very last bite, customers can envision gays burning in hell with their sodomizing cohorts, and know that our sandwich is on their side.”

"Of course, the young ones will want to finish their meals off right with a No Fudge Packin' Soft Serve Cone," Gary added. "I can't think of a better way to follow up a sandwich this good."
