Hi! I'm a Stage Manager located in Canada and this coming May (2019) I'm planning a trip to NYC. I've been doing some research as to where to go and what to see, but I'm curious to know of any lesser known (but highly recommended) places/ events/ activities to check out while I'm in town. From my research, I have yet to find much that is geared towards those of us who are interested/ work in theatre production.
Radio City Musical Hall Tour is interesting. The stage and its mechanics are fascinating. The whole Art Deco place has a fascinating history.
Stephen A Schwarzman Building ( AKA the 5th ave NYC Pub Library) does tours as well.
The Dorothy and Lewis B Cullman Center (NYPL for the Performing Arts- a part of Lincoln Centre) incredible exhibits . I think some parts of the divisions may require an academic letter to access but I don't know for sure.
Hope this helps- Enjoy!
Addendum- The Players Club is a private theatrical based Club in Gramercy Park that was once Edwin Booth's Private home. I've been there for events but if you can arrange a tour it is an interesting time capsule esp Booths bedroom suite and some theatre memorabilia
Another time capsule ( NOT theatre .based) is the Tenement museum in the Lower East Side.
