I know it's been done, but I feel like putting it out there. I've compiled a list of the four shows (most likely) to garner a nomination for "Best Musical" come the TONYs. I'd love your thoughts on my picks...and your own!

I think Grey Gardens is an easy lock for a nomination.

I'm thinking:

Curtains
Grey Gardens
Lovemusik
The Pirate Queen

Also, I'm not sure about Legally Blonde or High Fidelity, but I have my doubts. I wish Spring Awakening would get a nom, but I have a feeling that it'll be edged out. Mary Poppins, as of now, is the fifth musical out. It all really hinges on The Pirate Queen.

Right now I think that the only shoo in nomination is Curtains.

ETA: Mary Poppins. How did I forget this gem?

Honestly, I would probably make some changes to the list...Having thought about it, I don't know *what kind of reception* HIGH FIDELITY will receive. If nothing else, they'll get the nod for their set design. I feel that CURTAINS and SPRING AWAKENING will both garner nominations. THE PIRATE QUEEN, depending on the changes made before they make the move to the Hilton...That could make or break their chances. If nothing else, Schonberg and Boublil will have a moderately successful run (I hope, I hope!) I think Ebersole will take Leading Actress, though. All I'm hearing is that the first act of GREY GARDENS pretty much falls flat...I don't know if that's worthy enough of a nomination. The acting's superb. I don't know which show would be better off taking the last slot.

Spring Awakening
Grey Gardens
Curtains
Lovemusik

Newsflash: High Fidelity is probably the worst thing running right now, besides that lack of creative out put in that show, its poorly written and makes little to no sense at all. It looks like the grabbed random people off the streets and asked them to run around like a lunatic on stage for a few numbers!

LoL!

You'll have to forgive me...Call it flip-flopping if you'd like. Just trying to get the ball rolling on this one. It's not like I have any say, so what hte hell does it matter? I just kinda pulled 'em out of the air...Didn't give much thought to the picks yet. I'll have a list with my reasoning behind it soon enough.

Well of course The Times... is gonna win! jk re: 'Best Musical' 2007 TONY Contenders

Legally Blonde and The Pirate Queen will most likely recive noms. for score and leading actress. As for Best Musical, I think it is far too early to make a prediction, but if forced, I would say:

Grey Gardens
The Pirate Queen
Mary Poppins
Curtains

"In theater, the process of it is the experience. Everyone goes through the process, and everyone has the experience together. It doesn't last - only in people's memories and in their hearts. That's the beauty and sadness of it. But that's life - beauty and the sadness. And that is why theater is life." - Sherie Rene Scott

With the addition of LoveMusik to the 2006-2007 season, it is very likely that Mary Poppins, High Fidelity, Legally Blonde, and The Pirate Queen get snubbed from the Best Musical race. One of those fours will be competing for the 4th slot in the Best Score category that LoveMusik will be ineligible for.

It *could* be if Pirate Queen, LoveMusik and Legally Blonde all flop. Then the nominations will be:

Grey Gardens
Mary Poppins
Curtains
Spring Awakening

I see Grey Gardens and Spring Awakening getting nominated. Don't know about the other ones. Maybe Mary Poppins. But Disney wasn't so kind to them last year. Although, in all fairness, last year's Disney entry looks like theme park crap. Mary Poppins is amazing. Even though one cast member totally screwed over The Company Theatre.

PSYCHE!!!!!!!!!!! I'm just pullin' a Bryan on you guys!!!!!

But, seriously, I do see Grey Gardens and Spring Awakening as definite and Mary Poppins as a possibility.

If Spring Awakening is snubbed, there will be hell to pay.
