The Virginia Samford Theatre at Caldwell Park will present BUDDY- THE Buddy Holly STORY starting January 21 with additional performances on the 22nd, 23rd, 28th, 29th, and 30th at 7:30 PM and the 24th and 31st at 2:30 PM.

Fifty years ago, a man from Lubbock, Texas, changed the face of popular music, only to die tragically in a plane crash aged just 22. Now, BUDDY - THE Buddy Holly STORY tells the story of the three years in which he became the world's top recording artist with a show featuring such hits as "Peggy Sue," "That'll Be The Day," "Oh Boy," "Not Fade Away," "True Love Ways," "Everyday," "Rave On," Heartbeat," and "Raining In My Heart."

The production will be directed by Norton Dill and choreographed by Carl Dean. Tickets will be $30 for adults, $25 for seniors and $15 for ages 25 and under.

In February, the Virginia Samford Theatre Stars will perform RAGTIME: SCHOOL EDITION. Based on E.L. Doctorow's distinguished novel, Ragtime intertwines three distinct stories that poignantly illustrate history's timeless contradictions of wealth and poverty, freedom and prejudice, hope and despair, and love and hate.

The production will be directed by Roy Hudson - Alabama Teacher of the Year, 2008-2009 with music direction by Michael King.

Performances will be February 19 - 20 & 25 - 27 at 7:30 PM and February 21 & 28 at 2:30 PM. Tickets will cost $20 for adults & $15 for students.

The VST STARS (Students Take a Role at the Samford) Arts Education Program's Les Miserables: School Edition was awarded one of the "best theatre productions" of 2008. Performed by and for area high school students, the STARS initiative introduces young people to the magic of live theatre.
