SWEENEY TODD and More Set for Terrific New Theatre 6-Show 40th Anniversary Season

Terrific New Theatre has revealed its 40th anniversary season for 2026–2027, with a lineup of six productions balancing cutting-edge contemporary plays, an iconic musical thriller, and bold theatrical storytelling that reflects TNT's commitment to impactful live theatre. This season includes recent New York premieres, regional favorites, an immersive theatrical experiment, and one of the most beloved musicals ever written. In addition to its season, TNT will present special holiday programming from Ravenswood Productions.

All Nighter

Fresh from Off-Broadway, the season opens with Natalie Margolin's All Nighter, a dramedy that follows a group of female friends studying for their exams during their final week of college. Over the course of one night, a series of secrets is revealed that changes their lives forever. The show opens July 23 and runs through August 9, 2026.

The Counter

Running September 10–27, 2026, is the warmly funny and yearning play The Counter, which follows the unlikely connection between a retired firefighter who visits the same counter every morning for a few cups of coffee and the waitress who is always there to serve him.

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Stephen Sondheim's masterpiece Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street opens November 5 and runs through November 22, 2026. This dramatic musical is a gothic revenge tale about a wronged man who becomes a serial killer, wrapped in beautiful, intense music and sharp irony about justice and society.

Casey and Diana

Nick Green's Casey and Diana dramatizes Princess Diana's 1991 visit to Toronto's Casey House and focuses on the staff and residents finding hope and dignity during the AIDS crisis, highlighting Diana's role in breaking stigma. Commissioned by the Stratford Festival and premiering there in 2023, Casey and Diana has quickly gained national attention. This moving and timely work, which explores compassion, humanity, and resilience, runs February 4-21, 2027.

An Oak Tree

Favorite local actor and improv artist Nick Crawford stars in the one-man play An Oak Tree, one of the most inventive theatrical experiences ever written. Running April 1–18, 2027, the production features a remarkable twist: each performance includes a different guest performer reading their lines live from a script for the very first time. These special guest appearances create a unique experience for every audience.

TBA

TNT's season finale is officially listed as TBA, pending rights and permissions. The final production of the season will run June 3-20, 2027.

This year, Birmingham's annual It's a Wonderful Life: LIVE, produced by Ravenswood Productions, will be presented at TNT in December, offering theatergoers a special holiday event. This production is not part of TNT's regular season package, but rather a special add-on event.
