Academy Award-winner Martin McDonagh's A BEHANDING IN SPOKANE begins previews on Broadway on February 15, 2010 and opens on March 4, 2010. BroadwayWorld was on hand when the cast and team met the press today!

Yesterday, January 14, MEMPHIS celebrated its 100th performance on Broadway. In honor of the event, all involved with the production, along with BroadwayWorld, celebrated at Justin Timberlake's restaurant, ‘Southern Hospitality' following the curtain.

Guests included Kathleen Turner, Bill Irwin, Judith Light, Michael Urie, Bob Balaban, Tovah Feldshuh, David Pittu, Doug Hughes, Edward Hibbert, Nilo Cruz, John Doyle, Karen Ziemba and the current cast of Love, Loss, and What I Wore (Katie Finneran, Michele Lee, Debra Monk, Tracee Ellis Ross and Casey Wilson).

Alfred Hitchcock's THE 39 STEPS, Broadway's longest running comedy, concluded its Tony Award-winning two year run on January 10, 2010, when it played its final performance at the Helen Hayes Theatre. The production played 771 performances - the longest running Broadway play in seven years.

On Thursday, January 7 The Broadway League hosted Mark Aldrich of The Happy Hour Guys and members of the casts of RAGTIME and MEMPHIS on Broadway at Virgil's for warm post-show drinks to beat the cold at Virgils in Times Square. BroadwayWorld was on hand to capture the social Broadway gathering. A good time was had by all.

On Wednesday, January 6, the current cast of ALTAR BOYZ, in addition to cast alum, presented a $203,916 check to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids that the show raised for the organization at New World Stages.

On December 14, Joe's Pub showcased the second annual concert presentation of New York City Christmas, featuring special guests Sherie Rene Scott and Raul Esparza. Tony Award winner Harriet Harris hosted the event, which was presented by ASTEP (Artists Striving to End Poverty) and Sh-K-Boom/Ghostlight Records. Stafford Arima (London's Ragtime, Altar Boyz) directed the concert.

The 21st Annual GYPSY OF THE YEAR COMPETITION announced an all time record total of $4,630,695 had been raised by the 60 participating Broadway, Off-Broadway, and National Tour companies to benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. This year's total breaks the previous record when $3,927,000 was raised for the 2007 GYPSY OF THE YEAR COMPETITION.

A Very MARY Holiday, a benefit for Broadway Speaks OUT & The Ali Forney Center, took place on November 30th at Dixon Place (161 Chrystie Street, NYC).

On Monday, November 30, The Fred Ebb Foundation in association with the Roundabout Theatre Company presented the fifth annual Fred Ebb Award for aspiring musical theatre songwriters to Marcy Heisler and Zina Goldrich. The award, named in honor of the late award-winning lyricist Fred Ebb, was be presented by Eric Schaeffer of the Signature Theatre in the Penthouse Lobby of The American Airlines Theater.

Original Bye Bye Birdie cast member Gary Giocomo, who played 'Harvey Johnson' in the 1960 production, came to see Bye Bye Birdie and visit current cast member Paul Pilcz who plays 'Harvey Johnson' in the Roundabout Theatre Company production. BroadwayWorld.com was there for the fun meet and greet!

The Original Broadway Cast Recording of the celebrated new musical MEMPHIS will be available for purchase exclusively at the Shubert Theatre (225 West 44th Street) and online at www.memphisthemusical.com beginning Friday, December 11th. This special edition will feature a bonus track of "Memphis Lives in Me" performed by composer and Bon Jovi founding member David Bryan. The cast of MEMPHIS recorded the album at Avatar Studios on Monday, November 16, 2009. The recording is produced by Delray Records and nationwide distribution details will be available shortly.
