A legendary Irish rebel writer at his best inspires the critically acclaimed one-man sensation A Broth of a Boy, the staged life chronicle uniting the scripts, stories and song of notorious IRA renegade Brendan Behan. Arguably the most colorful Irish writer of the twentieth century, A Broth of a Boy brings to light Behan's stormy career, famed for his boisterous behavior as much as for humor, power and compassionate writings. As BroadwayWorld reported yesterday, Joan Roberts, the stage and film actress who created the role of 'Laurey' in the original 1943 production of Rodgers & Hammerstein's OKLAHOMA!, died on Monday August 13, in Stamford, Connecticut. Joining Frank onstage will be Janet Dacal (Wonderland, In The Heights), Karen Mason (upcoming Rebecca) and James Barbour (upcoming Rebecca).

Just yesterday, Newsies announced that Corey Cott will become the show's new leading man, Jack Kelly, beginning Wednesday, September 5th. Cott became the Jack Kelly alternate earlier this month and will continue as alternate until he assumes the role full time.

Over 20 years in the making, singer songwriter Glen Hansard released his first ever solo album, Rhythm and Repose, on Anti- Records on June 19. Best known for his work with The Frames, The Swell Season and in the feature film Once, for which he won an Academy Award, Rhythm and Repose is Hansard's debut solo album and first album of new material since his 2009 release Strict Joy with The Swell Season. Hairspray is a musical with music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Scott Wittman and Shaiman and a book by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan, based on the 1988 John Waters film Hairspray. In 1962 Baltimore, Maryland, plump teenager Tracy Turnblad's dream is to dance on The Corny Collins Show, a local TV dance program. When Tracy wins a role on the show, she becomes a celebrity overnight. She then launches a campaign to integrate the show. Hairspray is a social commentary on the injustices of parts of American society in the 1960s.
