Nicole Rosky

Nicole is the Editor-in-Chief of BroadwayWorld, where she began her journey as an intern in 2010. As BroadwayWorld's Senior Managing Editor, a role she took on in 2012, she covered over a decade's-worth of theatre and live entertainment in New York City and around the world. Throughout her time with BroadwayWorld, Nicole has worked extensively with the photo and video team, producing (and sometimes editing) a great deal of the site's original programming, including Backstage with Richard Ridge, Dance Captain Dance Attack, Next on Stage, Kid Critics, and Teen Critics, just to name a few. Originally from outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she is a proud graduate of Penn State University's College of Communications. Nicole currently resides in Brooklyn, New York, where she gets to enjoy far more great theatre than she ever dreamed. Her first great role was "Billy Flynn" in her fourth grade musical theatre class. Oh, how far she has come!

  • Tony Nominee Reactions - I have had the pleasure of covering every Tony Awards season since 2011 and one of my favorite parts is hearing from the nominees just moments after they find out that they ARE nominees.
  • Theatre Queens - When I'm not at a Broadway show, you'll find me at home, catching up on the latest episodes of RuPaul's Drag Race. I've had a blast chatting with many of the queens who call theatre their first love.
  • Broadway Jukebox - I love a good playlist and I find myself making them OFTEN. I've curated over 100 musical theatre playlists for BroadwayWorld (my personal favorite is "Female Anthems of Broadway"). Give them a listen and follow BroadwayWorld on Spotify to find out what I come up with next!
  • Broadway By Design - I created this series after realizing how little information is shared about the theatrical design process and it has become one of my favorite ongoing features.
  • Next On Stage - Working on this project and having the opportunity to spotlight so many talented young people from around the country has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career.

As previously announced, this fall, Broadway's acclaimed record-breaking revival of the Tony Award-winning musical CHICAGO will welcome singer, songwriter, actor and multi-platinum recording artist Billy Ray Cyrus in his Broadway stage debut as 'that silver-tongued prince of the courtroom,' slick criminal lawyer Billy Flynn. Cyrus will play a limited seven-week engagement at the Ambassador Theatre (219 W. 49th St.) this holiday season, Monday November 5 through Sunday, December 23. MOTOWN: THE MUSICAL, based on the life of legendary Motown founder Berry Gordy, will open on Broadway at The Lunt-Fontanne Theatre (205 West 46 Street) on April 14, 2013. Preview performances will begin March 11, 2013. Last night, the show held a launch event for the anticipated world premiere at Lunt Fontanne Theatre. Via a global webcast this morning, The Phantom of the Opera star Sarah Brightman, will, as rumoured, indeed be travelling into space in 2014 or 2015 for ten days on a voyage that will take her to the International Space Station. It was announced at the press conference that she had cleared all necessary medical tests, and at the completion of a 2013, 5 continent, 100 city tour would go straight into 6 months of training before her space flight. October 30th will see the release of ROADS, the highly anticipated debut album from classical crossover artist CHRIS MANN. ROADS arrives via Faircraft/Universal Republic, a new imprint headed up by multi-platinum producer and veteran A&R executive Ron Fair (Mary J. Blige, the Black Eyed Peas, Fergie, The Pussycat Dolls, Il Volo, Christina Aguilera), who also served as the album's executive producer.

According to Variety, Tony winner James Corden, has signed on to star in the BBC's 'The Wrong Man' series. THe six part comedy thriller will air on Hulu in 2013. Corden will play a 'lowly office worker Phil caught up in a criminal conspiracy involving a car crash.'

Vineyard Theatre (Douglas Aibel, Artistic Director and Sarah Stern, Co-Artistic Director) just announced a one-night-only reading of Becky Mode's acclaimed play FULLY COMMITTED - with Mark Setlock returning to his "sparkling tour de force" (NY Post) performance - which will benefit The Vineyard's productions and programs in 2012-2013. Friar Alessandro Signs with Decca Records/Universal Music

Decca Records/Universal Music announces the global signing of Franciscan Friar, Alessandro Brustenghi, from the original friary founded by Saint Francis of Assisi: the Porziuncola in Assisi. Alessandro is the first Friar in the history to land a major record deal. Voice From Assisi http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=od9BnmYuKZ8 is a mix of traditional and modern sacred songs, including an original track by Royal Wedding composer Paul Mealor, set to a prayer written by St Francis of Assisi. When musing on his relationship with music, Friar Alessandro stated "God's gift was in my heart. When I woke up in the morning in my heart I heard melodies".

Palmetto Records recently released Tony Award winner and two-time Grammy nominee Betty Buckley's latest solo album, Betty Buckley: Ah, Men! The Boys of Broadway. Inspired by her critically acclaimed 2011 concert at Feinstein's at the Lowes Regency in New York City, Buckley reinterprets classic Broadway songs that were originally made famous by men. Buckley made an appearance at Barnes & Noble yesterday, where she sang 5 songs from her new album and did a Q&A with Seth Rudetsky. Check out photos from the event below!

Emmy-winning composer Jim Dooley and lyricist Mike Himelstein have written the score (Dooley) and the songs (Dooley & Himelstein) for the first video game musical: Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two. Epic Mickey 2 is the first video game to use songs to drive the story forward, and one of the lead characters (the mad doctor) only communicated via song. Signature Theatre Company's (James Houghton, Founding Artistic Director; Erika Mallin, Executive Director) production of THE PIANO LESSON by August Wilson and directed by Ruben Santiago-Hudson is now in rehearsal. The production runs October 30 through December 9, 2012, with a November 18 opening night in The Irene Diamond Stage at The Pershing Square Signature Center (480 West 42nd Street between 9th and 10th Avenues). Appomattox, a sprawling political epic by Christopher Hampton taking place in 1865 and 1965 at the close of the American Civil War and the pivotal Civil Rights Era, opened Friday, October 5 at the Guthrie Theater to continue the Hampton Celebration. The play runs until November 11 on the Guthrie's McGuire Proscenium Stage, and is directed by David Esbjornson (Broadway/London: Driving Miss Daisy, A Few Good Men; Broadway: The Goat or Who is Sylvia?, The Ride Down Mt.
