Daryl Roth Productions (DRP) announces the formation of a new division responsible for facilitating the licensing of DRP titles and productions to professional and amateur theaters around the world as well as for film, online and television. The catalog will include the company's Broadway, Off-Broadway and DR2 Kids programming titles.

On September 25th, music legend Barbara Cook released an all new recording, Loverman, her latest from DRG Records. Loverman is a brilliant departure from Ms. Cook's traditional Broadway repertoire, featuring a large collection of jazz and standards. On October 18th, Ms. Cook will perform a concert at Carnegie Hall in celebration her 85th birthday with Ted Rosenthal and Lee Musiker and a few surprise guests.

Actors' Equity Association announced today that Emmy-Award winning director/producer and writer William Greaves is the recipient of the 2012 Paul Robeson Award. Created in 1971, the Award recognizes a person who best exemplifies the principles by which Mr. Robeson lived. The award will be presented to Mr. Greaves at the October 12 Eastern Regional Membership Meeting at the Union's headquarters in New York City.

Craig Wright's Grace, starring Paul Rudd and Academy Award nominee Michael Shannon, with Kate Arrington and seven-time Emmy Award-winner Ed Asner, opened on October 4, 2012 at Broadway's Cort Theatre (138 West 48th Street). Today in 1946, Cyrano de Bergerac opened at the Alvin Theatre (now the Neil Simon Theatre), where it ran for 193 performances. Cyrano de Bergerac is a play written in 1897 by Edmond Rostand. Although there was a real Cyrano de Bergerac, the play bears a very scant resemblance to his life. The entire play is written in verse, in rhyming couplets of 12 syllables per line, very close to the Alexandrine format, but the verses sometimes lack a caesura. Notable English-speaking Cyranos include Ralph Richardson, DeVeren Bookwalter, Derek Jacobi, Richard Chamberlain, and Christopher Plummer, who played the part in Rostand's original play and won a Tony Award for the 1973 musical adaptation. Kevin Kline played the role in a Broadway production in 2007. The play is currently in previews at the American Airlines Theatre, starring Douglas Hodge in the title role.

Today in 2006, the first Broadway revival of A Chorus Line opened at the Schoenfeld Theatre, where it ran for 759 performances. A Chorus Line is a musical about Broadway dancers auditioning for spots on a chorus line. The book was authored by James Kirkwood, Jr. and Nicholas Dante, lyrics were written by Edward Kleban, and music was composed by Marvin Hamlisch. With nineteen main characters, it is set on the bare stage of a Broadway theatre during an audition for a musical. The show provides a glimpse into the personalities of the performers and the choreographer as they describe the events that have shaped their lives and their decisions to become dancers. The original Broadway production received 12 Tony Award nominations and winning nine of them, in addition to the 1976 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

According to EW.com, Broadway favorite Daphne Rubin-Vega has joined SMASH's all-star cast for season two. Rubin-Vega will play a Broadway publicist on the show, which returns on NBC in 2013. Also joining the cast for season 2 are Jennifer Hudson, Sean Hayes, Jesse L. Martin, Krysta Rodriguez, Andy Mientus and Jeremy Jordan.

The first new Broadway production of Tim Rice's and Andrew Lloyd Webber's landmark musical EVITA since its premiere over 30 years ago stars Grammy-winning international pop icon Ricky Martin as Che, Olivier Award-winning Argentinean actress Elena Roger making her Broadway debut as Eva Peron and Tony Award-winner Michael Cerveris as Juan Peron. New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW) Artistic Director James C. Nicola and Managing Director William Russo have announced that tickets are on sale for A Civil War Christmas, written by Paula Vogel and directed by Tina Landau. Performances of this holiday-themed work begin Tuesday, November 13, 2012, at 7pm at NYTW, 79 East 4 Street, between Bowery and Second Avenue. Opening night is scheduled for Tuesday, December 4 at 7pm. A Civil War Christmas is scheduled to run through Sunday, December 30.

With the first of last night's 2012 Presidential debates focussing on the economy, much of President Obama and Mitt Romney's discussion had to do with the national debt, creating jobs, and social security, but one of Romney's ideas about reducing govenment spending got most of the media attention- getting rid of PBS. Ghostlight Records has just announced that Carrie: The Musical - Premiere Cast Recording has debuted atop the Billboard 'Top Broadway' Chart for the week ending September 30th. The official chart lists Carrie: The Musical as the #1 selling album of the week, followed by (in order of sales) Wicked, Bring It On, The Book of Mormon, Once, and Jersey Boys, all shows still running on Broadway, making Carrie's appearance atop the chart a rare feat. Released on Tuesday, September 25th, the immediate chart success of Carrie: The Musical signals the enduring qualities of its 2012 production at MCC Theater (which closed its celebrated run in April 2012) and the dynamic score with music by Academy Award®-winner Michael Gore (Fame, Terms of Endearment), lyrics by Academy Award®-winner Dean Pitchford (Fame, Footloose), and a book by Lawrence D. Cohen, who also penned the film's screenplay.

Susan Mosher and Emily McNamara join the cast of the uproarious off-Broadway musical revue, NEWSical the Musical, beginning October 15th. Susan Mosher, who starred in Hairspray on Broadway, will replace Leslie Kritzer. Nightlife sensation Emily McNamara steps in for a limited run, filling in for Christine Pedi until October 26th.

Over 20 years in the making, singer songwriter Glen Hansard released his first ever solo album, Rhythm and Repose, on Anti- Records on June 19. Best known for his work with The Frames, The Swell Season and in the feature film Once, for which he won an Academy Award, Rhythm and Repose is Hansard's debut solo album and first album of new material since his 2009 release Strict Joy with The Swell Season. Andrew Lloyd Webber revealed in a recent interview with Scotsman.com that the Australian version of LOVE NEVER DIES will indeed make its way back to the UK. He told Scotsman: 'The Australian production, which was wonderful - the London production wasn't very good, the Australians got it right - is going out next year. The plan is, that will go on the road here, in the autumn of next year.'

The full cast and creative team for the world premiere of Forever Dusty, a new musical about the life and times of legendary icon Dusty Springfield, by Kirsten Holly Smith and Jonathan Vankin, has been announced. Directed by Randal Myler (Love, Janis; It Ain't Nothin' But the Blues), performances will begin November 11, 2012 at New World Stages (340 West 50th Street), with an official Opening Night set for Sunday, November 18, 2012.

Happy Birthday, Alfred Drake! He is best known for his leading roles in the original Broadway productions of Oklahoma!; Kiss Me, Kate; Kismet; and for playing Marshall Blackstone in the original production of Babes in Arms, (in which he sang the title song) and Hajj in Kismet, for which he received the Tony Award. His 1964 stage performance as Claudius in the Richard Burton Hamlet was filmed live on the stage of the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. His final stage appearance in a musical was in 1973 as Honore LaChaisse in Lerner and Loewe's Gigi. Two years later he starred in a revival of The Skin of Our Teeth.

Arden best known for starring on Broadway in Bob Dylan and Twyla Tharp's musical The Times They Are A-Changin.' Additional Broadway credits include the Roundabout Theatre Company's presentation of the Deaf West Theatre sign-language production of Big River. Other credits include Ace, Swimming in the Shallows, Bare, Harold & Maude and It's Only Life Off-Broadway. Arden also joined Barbra Streisand during her world concert tour and appeared in the City Center Encores! staging of Juno.
