Nicole Rosky

Nicole is the Editor-in-Chief of BroadwayWorld, where she began her journey as an intern in 2010. As BroadwayWorld's Senior Managing Editor, a role she took on in 2012, she covered over a decade's-worth of theatre and live entertainment in New York City and around the world. Throughout her time with BroadwayWorld, Nicole has worked extensively with the photo and video team, producing (and sometimes editing) a great deal of the site's original programming, including Backstage with Richard Ridge, Dance Captain Dance Attack, Next on Stage, Kid Critics, and Teen Critics, just to name a few. Originally from outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she is a proud graduate of Penn State University's College of Communications. Nicole currently resides in Brooklyn, New York, where she gets to enjoy far more great theatre than she ever dreamed. Her first great role was "Billy Flynn" in her fourth grade musical theatre class. Oh, how far she has come!

  • Tony Nominee Reactions - I have had the pleasure of covering every Tony Awards season since 2011 and one of my favorite parts is hearing from the nominees just moments after they find out that they ARE nominees.
  • Theatre Queens - When I'm not at a Broadway show, you'll find me at home, catching up on the latest episodes of RuPaul's Drag Race. I've had a blast chatting with many of the queens who call theatre their first love.
  • Broadway Jukebox - I love a good playlist and I find myself making them OFTEN. I've curated over 100 musical theatre playlists for BroadwayWorld (my personal favorite is "Female Anthems of Broadway"). Give them a listen and follow BroadwayWorld on Spotify to find out what I come up with next!
  • Broadway By Design - I created this series after realizing how little information is shared about the theatrical design process and it has become one of my favorite ongoing features.
  • Next On Stage - Working on this project and having the opportunity to spotlight so many talented young people from around the country has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career.

Brett Smock and Drew Brody will present an Industry-only reading of their new musical: The Mudge Boy, on November 29th, 2012 at 3pm. The event will feature Donna McKechnie (Irene), James Crichton (Duncan Mudge), Mike Masters (Edgar Mudge), John Arthur Greene (Perry Foley), Jennifer Simard (Emily Foley), Brent Black (Juster Pelkey / Merritt Foley), Lilli Cooper (April), Caitlin Kinnunen (Tonya), Bart Mather (Travis), Jim Schubin (Scotty).This powerful, controversial new work is based on Michael Burke's 2003 film, The Mudge Boy and has been in development for several years. This reading will serve as its official launch.

On last night's episode of GLEE, titled, 'The Role You Were Born to Play,' the school production of Grease was underway, and Marley (Melissa Benoist), Jake (Jacob Artist), Kitty (Becca Tobin) and football player Ryder (Blake Jenner) compete to play 'Danny' and 'Sandy.' Meanwhile, former Glee clubbers Mercedes (Amber Riley) and Mike (Harry Shum Jr.) returned to cast the play, and Mr. Schuester (Matthew Morrison) struggled with a difficult decision. Miss the episode? Broadway stars Emily Padgett and Matthew Hydzik will star as "Alex" and "Nick" in the world premiere of FLASHDANCE - THE MUSICAL, the stage adaptation of the 1983 hit film that defined a generation. Padgett and Hydzik will be joined on stage by the legendary Rachelle Rak in the role of "Tess." Sergio Trujillo, director and choreographer for the production returned to the home of FLASHDANCE and launch of the world premiere, Pittsburgh's Heinz Hall, to announce the lead casting from a press conference. Mayor Luke Ravenstahl and Kevin McMahon, CEO of Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, were also on hand to welcome the cast and creative team to Pittsburgh and to make a proclamation, naming January 1, 2013 as FLASHDANCE DAY. Celebrating its 30th Anniversary,FLASHDANCE kicks off a national tour January 1-6 at Heinz Hall and continues on to more than 20 cities with additional bookings to be announced:

On November 17 at 2pm EST, medici.tv will present a live webcast of French actress Marion Cotillard - winner of an Academy Award for her portrayal of Édith Piaf in the hit film La vie en rose - performing the lead role in Arthur Honegger's iconic 1935 oratorio, Jeanne au Bucher ("Joan of Arc at the Stake"), at the Barcelona Auditori. The libretto for Honegger's Jeanne au Bucher is a highly original creation by French poet and playwright Paul Claudel, who dramatized the last moments of the martyr's life. Featuring speaking and singing roles, Joan of Arc at the Stake has, since its Basel premiere in 1938, established itself as one of the most stunning dramatic oratorios in the history of music.

FLASHDANCE - THE MUSICAL, the stage adaptation of the 1983 smash hit movie that defined a generation, will arrive on Broadway in August 2013 with a theater, dates and casting to be announced. As previously announced, FLASHDANCE will launch a separate national touring company in January 2013 at the Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh, the steel town that serves as the musical's setting, and will continue to play over 25 markets in North America. Today in 2006, the first Broadway revival of Les Miserables opened at the Broadhurst Theatre, where it ran for 463 performances. Written by Claude-Michel Schönberg, based on the novel by Victor Hugo, Les Miserables is set in early 19th-century France. The plot follows the stories of many characters as they struggle for redemption and revolution. In January 2010, it played its ten-thousandth performance in London, at Queen's Theatre in London's West End. On 3 October 2010, the show celebrated its 25th anniversary with three productions running in the same city: the original show at London's West End; the Twenty-Fifth Anniversary touring production at the original home of the show, the Barbican Centre; and the Twenty-Fifth Anniversary concert at London's O2 Arena.

Stage, television and film star Robert Sean Leonard will star as Henry Higgins in The Old Globe's 100th anniversary production of George Bernard Shaw's masterwork, Pygmalion. The Tony Award-winning actor last appeared on the Old Globe stage as Edgar in Jack O'Brien's renowned 1993 presentation of King Lear starring Hal Holbrook. Directed by Nicholas Martin (Broadway's Butley with Nathan Lane and Present Laughter with Victor Garber), Pygmalion will run on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center, Jan. 12 - Feb. 17, 2013. Preview performances run Jan. 12 - Jan. 16. Opening night is Thursday, Jan. 17 at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are currently available by subscription only. Single tickets go on sale Sunday, Dec. 9 at 12 noon.
