Nicole Rosky

Nicole is the Editor-in-Chief of BroadwayWorld, where she began her journey as an intern in 2010. As BroadwayWorld's Senior Managing Editor, a role she took on in 2012, she covered over a decade's-worth of theatre and live entertainment in New York City and around the world. Throughout her time with BroadwayWorld, Nicole has worked extensively with the photo and video team, producing (and sometimes editing) a great deal of the site's original programming, including Backstage with Richard Ridge, Dance Captain Dance Attack, Next on Stage, Kid Critics, and Teen Critics, just to name a few. Originally from outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she is a proud graduate of Penn State University's College of Communications. Nicole currently resides in Brooklyn, New York, where she gets to enjoy far more great theatre than she ever dreamed. Her first great role was "Billy Flynn" in her fourth grade musical theatre class. Oh, how far she has come!

  • Tony Nominee Reactions - I have had the pleasure of covering every Tony Awards season since 2011 and one of my favorite parts is hearing from the nominees just moments after they find out that they ARE nominees.
  • Theatre Queens - When I'm not at a Broadway show, you'll find me at home, catching up on the latest episodes of RuPaul's Drag Race. I've had a blast chatting with many of the queens who call theatre their first love.
  • Broadway Jukebox - I love a good playlist and I find myself making them OFTEN. I've curated over 100 musical theatre playlists for BroadwayWorld (my personal favorite is "Female Anthems of Broadway"). Give them a listen and follow BroadwayWorld on Spotify to find out what I come up with next!
  • Broadway By Design - I created this series after realizing how little information is shared about the theatrical design process and it has become one of my favorite ongoing features.
  • Next On Stage - Working on this project and having the opportunity to spotlight so many talented young people from around the country has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career.

The cast is set for the U.S. premiere of "Backbeat," the dramatic new play with music about the birth of one of the greatest rock 'n' roll bands in history, the Beatles. "Backbeat" will have its U.S. premiere at the Ahmanson Theatre, with previews beginning January 20 and performances continuing through March 1, 2013. The opening is set for January 30.

BroadwayWorld has confirmed that the Lincoln Center Theater production of VANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKE, a new play by Christopher Durang, directed by Nicholas Martin might be heading to Broadway. A show representative has revealed to BWW that talks for a possible Broadway transfer are in 'very early stages.'

The first trailer for director Steven Soderbergh's psychological thriller SIDE EFFECTS has been released. Rooney Mara stars as a troubled young woman who develops a dangerous love triangle between her doctor (Jude Law) and her newly paroled husband (Channing Tatum). Catherine Zeta-Jones also stars in the film set to hit theaters February 8th. Check out the trailer below!

As BroadwayWorld reported last night, producers Barry & Fran Weissler and Howard & Janet Kagan will present the American Repertory Theater's 40th Anniversary production of Roger O. Hirson and Stephen Schwartz's Pippin, directed by Diane Paulus, on Broadway in the Spring of 2013. PIPPIN will begin preview performances on Broadway on Saturday, March 23, 2013 and officially open on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at the Music Box Theatre (239 West 45th Street).

Today in 1963, Oliver! opened at Broadway's Imperial Theatre, where it ran for 774 performances. Oliver! is a British musical, with script, music and lyrics by Lionel Bart. The musical is based upon the novel Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens. It premiered in the West End in 1960, enjoying a long run, a successful Broadway production in 1963 and further tours and revivals. It was made into a musical film in 1968. Major London revivals played from 1994-1998 and again from 2008-2011.

Today in 1946, the second Broadway revival of Showboat opened at the Ziegfeld Theatre, and ran for 418 performances. Show Boat is a musical in two acts with music by Jerome Kern and book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II. It was originally produced in New York in 1927 and in London in 1928, and was based on the 1926 novel of the same name by Edna Ferber. The plot chronicles the lives of those living and working on the Cotton Blossom, a Mississippi River show boat, from 1880 to 1927. The show's dominant themes include racial prejudice and tragic, enduring love.

CHAPLIN, a new musical depicting the life of film icon Charlie Chaplin played by Rob McClure, with music and lyrics by Christopher Curtis and book by three-time Tony Award-winner Thomas Meehan (Annie, The Producers, Hairspray) and Christopher Curtis, opened on Broadway on Monday, September 10, 2012. Warren Carlyle (Finian's Rainbow; Hugh Jackman, Back on Broadway) directs and choreographs the production. McClure's past Avenue Q castmate Ricky Lyon and Joseph Siroa just visited the show and you can catch photos of the duo backstage below!

This past October, the Bucks County Playhouse (BCP) and Newtown Arts Company announced the return of the famed student theater festival competition to the newly reopened Playhouse next spring after an absence of two years. The BCP Student Theater Festival, produced by Newtown Arts Company and the Playhouse, will be open to participating middle and high schools.

Produced Off Broadway by Carole Black and Pat Mitchell, and directed by Obie Award-winner Jo Bonney (By the Way, Meet Vera Stark) with original music and musical direction by Charl-Johan Lingenfelder, Emotional Creature began previews The Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center (480 West 42nd Street) on Friday, October 26, 2012, and officially opened on Monday, November 12, 2012.

According to a recent tweet from Actors' Equity Association, as of January 7, AEA's new building entrance will be through Times Square Visitors Center (7th Ave. at W. 46th/W. 47th Street, between McDonalds & Palace Theater). AEA Offices, including Membership, Auditions & VITA are open, and sign-ups for EPA Auditions continue outside on W. 46 Steet, near the old building entrance.

According to the Star, a high school in Utah has cancelled a student production of All Shook Up because of a 'sexually suggestive song.' Rehearsals for the production had already begun but the Herriman High School announced that a different show would be selected due to offensive content.
