Today in 2011, In the Heights closed at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, where it ran for 1184 performances. In the Heights is a musical with music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda and a book by Quiara Alegría Hudes. The story explores three days in the characters' lives in the New York City Dominican-American neighborhood of Washington Heights. The Broadway production was nominated for thirteen Tony Awards, winning four: Best Musical, Best Original Score, Best Choreography (Andy Blankenbuehler), and Best Orchestrations (Alex Lacamoire and Bill Sherman). It was also a finalist for the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Broadway's Nolan Gerard Funk will soon lead the all-male 'Warbler' choir group on the FOX musical drama series GLEE.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Fox Entertainment chairman Kevin Reilly is currently in talks to renew GLEE for a fifth season. He revealed: 'Yes, that is a real possibility; we're going to negotiate now for the fifth season and beyond, so we're talking about those things now.'

SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR is coming to theaters on October 4, 2013 from Dimension Films (The Weinstein Company). The film is directed by Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller. According to Comingsoon, Josh Brolin has signed on for the fim, in which he will star as 'Dwight'.

Award-winning stage and screen actress Fiona Shaw will return to the New York stage this spring with The Testament of Mary, by the acclaimed author Colm Tóibín, directed by Deborah Warner. The production will begin previews on Tuesday, March 26, and open on Monday, April 22 for a twelve-week limited engagement through Sunday, June 16 at the Walter Kerr Theatre (219 West 48 Street.) The production will not only mark the New York theatrical debut for the multi-award winning novelist but will also be the first collaboration between Fiona Shaw and Deborah Warner to premiere on this side of the Atlantic.

According to The Standard, Cameron Mackintosh is looking to revive his 1992 West End flop- Moby Dick. He told the Standard: "I was dealing with someone who wants to bring Moby Dick out next year, an American producer.'He added that the show is "going to open in London in a pub theatre and there's one being eyed up for Broadway in the next two years."

Performances for the upcoming national tour of FLASHDANCE - THE MUSICAL, the stage adaptation of the 1983 hit film that defined a generation, begin January 1st and run through January 6 at Pittsburgh's Heinz Hall. At a recent press event, Mayor Luke Ravenstahl officially announced January 1st as FLASHDANCE day. Paper Mill Playhouse (Mark S. Hoebee-Producing Artistic Director, Todd Schmidt-Managing Director) has just announced the cast for its winter comedy, Ken Ludwig's Lend Me a Tenor. This hysterically funny, door-slamming comedy will feature Broadway stars and Paper Mill Playhouse favorites including: Judith Blazer (Maria), John Treacy Egan (Tito), Donna English (Diana), Nancy Johnston (Julia), David Josefsberg (Max), Michael Kostroff (Saunders), Jill Paice (Maggie) and Mark Price (Bellhop). Lend Me a Tenor will be directed by Don Stephenson. Lend Me a Tenor will run at the Millburn, New Jersey, theater from February 13 through March 10, 2013. The official press opening is Sunday, February 17, at 7:00pm.

The Guthrie Theater today announced complete casting for its production of Jon Robin Baitz's Other Desert Cities. The production will be directed by Peter Rothstein and will feature actors Sally Wingert (Broadway/West End, London: La Bete, Guthrie: Appomattox, Charley's Aunt) as Polly Wyeth, Michelle Barber (Guthrie: Roman Holiday, Caroline, or Change) as Silda Grauman and David Anthony Brinkley (Guthrie: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, The Scottsboro Boys) as Lyman Wyeth in a contemporary and politically charged dramedy by the acclaimed playwright whose television credits include the compelling dramas "Brothers and Sisters" and "The West Wing."

Today in 1981, Joe Papp's revival of THe Pirates of Penzance opened at the Uris Theatre, where it ran for 787 performances. The Pirates of Penzance is a comic opera in two acts, with music by Arthur Sullivan and libretto by W. S. Gilbert. The opera's official premiere was at the Fifth Avenue Theatre in New York City on 31 December 1879, where the show was well received by both audiences and critics. Pirates was the fifth Gilbert and Sullivan collaboration and introduced the much-parodied Major-General's Song.
