Penobscot Theater Company Presents An Evening of Rock 'n Roll at the Bangor Opera House, 5/12May 1, 2012Beginning in July of 2011, Sasha Alcott and Chris Viner started curating a series of 'WPC Presents' events in the Bangor area which are evenings of live, original music including acts from the Bangor area coupled with touring musicians. The concept was, and is to cross pollinate the Northeastern United States indie music scene with the burgeoning scene in Bangor. The series has taken place in a variety of establishments and has recently expanded to include acts from as far as Pittsburgh PA.
Eldar Djangirov Trio Returns Blue Note with Special Guest Pat Martino, 5/20-5/23May 1, 201225 year-old pianist Eldar Djangirov will return to the Blue Note for the first time in three years with legendary guitarist Pat Martino. Eldar and Martino have been playing together frequently over the past year, both in quartet and duo settings. The pair initially teamed up in late 2009 for a tribute gig to guitar icon Les Paul at the Iridium in New York and later joined for the Lincoln Center 'Generations in Jazz Festival' in 2010. Over the past months, they've been playing a mix of each other's originals and standards like 'Round Midnight' and 'In Walked Bud.' 'Playing with Pat, you always have to be on your toes,' Eldar told the San Diego Anthology. 'This has been a great and very satisfying experience for me, and I think we'll keep playing together a few times each year.'

One Old Crow Productions Presents COWBOY MOUTH, 6/7-6/22May 1, 2012One Old Crow Productions will present a site-specific production of COWBOY MOUTH, the play born out of the actual relationship between America's most celebrated dramatist, Sam Shepard and the godmother of Punk, Patti Smith. This play with original music composed in collaboration with the cast and director will take place in a grungy space above the bar Lucky Cheng's in the Lower East Side and will incorporate elements from the streets of New York. One Old Crow invites the audience into Cavale's apartment, where she has been holed up with Slim. The production will be directed by Leah Benavides (The 4th Graders Present an Unnamed Love-Suicide at The Tank; Member of the 2011 Lincoln Center Director Lab) and will feature Diana Beshara (The Love Letter You've Been Meaning to Write New York at 3LD) as Cavale and Geoffrey Pomeroy (Two Days 'til Dawn at the 2011 Planet Connections Festivity) as Slim.

Family Equality Council Launches First Annual International Family Equality Day Celebrations, 5/6May 1, 2012In the U.S. alone, there are an estimated 2 million children being raised by 1 million lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) parents. Globally, that number greatly increases. Family Equality Council, the nation's foremost advocate for LGBT families, announced this week they will launch a series of annual celebrations in honor of the first-ever International Family Equality Day on May 6, 2012.
