Belcourt Theatre Presents Studio Ghibli Film Series, 6/1-6/13May 1, 2012The Belcourt Theatre presents Castles in the Sky: Miyazaki, Takahata and the Masters of Studio Ghibli, a film retrospective of the renowned Japanese animation studio from June 1-13. Joyce DeWitt to Star in Alhambra Show REMEMBER ME, 9/3-10/7 May 1, 2012Craig Smith, Managing Partner of the new Alhambra Theatre & Dining, announced that Joyce DeWitt will star in Sam Bobrick's romantic comedy, REMEMBER ME. Miss DeWitt is most widely known to audiences for her starring role as 'Janet Wood' in the ABC Television hit series THREE'S COMPANY. DeWitt has worked both as actress and director in a stage career which spans over forty years. She recently starred in A SCATTERED, SMOTHERED AND COVERED CHRISTMAS MUSICAL and the Canadian productions of the 2000 Pulitzer Prize-winning play DINNER WITH FRIENDS and Alfred Uhry's Tony Award-winning play THE LAST NIGHT OF BALLYHOO. Other recent stage performances include the North American premiere of the Australian comedy DAYLIGHT SAVINGS, the British farce NOISES OFF, the revival of Cole Porter's ANYTHING GOES, and the Broadway musical OLYMPUS ON MY MIND, for which she completed the cast recording - her first record album.

Teresa Wakim Makes Handel and Haydn Society Solo Debut in Mozart Coronation TonightApril 27, 2012Soprano Teresa Wakim makes her Handel and Haydn Society (H&H) Symphony Hall debut as a featured soloist with Mozart Coronation, H&H's final program of the 2011-2012 Season. Wakim, a member of the H&H professional chorus since 2003, will be stepping in to replace scheduled guest Rosemary Joshua, who has withdrawn from her appearance due to personal reasons. Performing with Wakim is tenor Thomas Cooley, who returns to H&H in Mozart Coronation after most recently performing in Mozart Mass in C Minor in 2010; he can be heard on H&H's recording of the work, released on CORO. Soloists also include mezzo-soprano Paula Murrihy and Boston-based baritone Sumner Thompson, who both return toH&H after having performed as members of the H&H Chorus as well as guest soloists. Murrihy most recently appeared in Handel's Messiah in 2008, and Thompson was heard last season in The Bach Experience.

Minneapolis Theatre Garage to Present COMPLEAT FEMALE STAGE BEAUTY, 5/18 - 6/2April 25, 2012In Shakespeare's time, all female roles were played by men (often boy apprentices), who learned to create an idealized version of femininity onstage. This practice continued throughout the Jacobean era until the theatres were closed by Oliver Cromwell in 1642. When Charles II returned from his exile on the continent in 1661, the theatres reopened and actors initially resumed the tradition of men-as-women. But the new monarch had an appreciation for women onstage and the old practice was quickly abolished.
