GAVROCHE, a new musical based on Victor Hugo's novel, 'Les Misérables,' with book, music, and lyrics by Bonnie Gleicher, is having its California premiere at the Idyllwild Arts Academy. Idyllwild Arts' theatre department chair, Bonnie Carpenter, is directing the production, whose cast is made up entirely of Academy theatre arts students in grades ten through twelve. GAVROCHE will run from December 3rd-5th.

Desert Theatreworks' production of Ron Clark's and Sam Bobrick's farce, MURDER AT THE HOWARD JOHNSON'S, is funny and imaginatively staged, and improves upon the source material. It will run Thursdays through Sundays, through November 21st

JIM BORAX’S CALIFORNIA CABARET will appear at the Rancho Mirage Amphitheater on November 10, 2021, at 7 pm. The no-charge performance will feature Broadway hits and songs from the Great American Songbook.

THE PRODUCERS, the first post-lockdown Desert Theatreworks (DTW) show, is perfect to welcome eager audiences back - a true winner. Ron and Lance Phillips, the married couple that operates DTW, took the opportunity of the hiatus to completely rework the Indio Performing Arts Center, adding a new 250-seat main stage for musicals. As most people know, the Mel Brooks show is loaded with bad taste, but is hilarious nonetheless.

Desert Rose Playhouse has extended its run of THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW. The additional performances will take place on Thursday, September 16, 2021, at 7 p.m.; on Friday and Saturday nights, September 17 and 18, at 8 p.m.; on Sunday, September 19, at 2 p.m.; and on Saturday night September 25 — actually, Sunday morning September 26 — at midnight.

Desert TheatreWorks (DTW) has announced its 2021-2022 season and invites interested actors, singers and dancers to audition.  There will be four musicals (two of which will feature live bands) and three plays. Artistic Director Lance Phillips has chosen programs that he describes as “upbeat, fun, and an escape to a happy place.”

The Desert Rose Playhouse production of THE GREAT AMERICAN TRAILER PARK MUSICAL is currently running in the company's new location in Palm Springs. The show features fabulous performances and design, and terrific direction by Robbie Wayne. Combined with David Nehls' clever lyrics and tuneful music (reminiscent of GREASE), audiences are sure to have a good time.

Live theatre returns to the Coachella Valley with the Desert Rose Playhouse's THE MISS FIRECRACKER CONTEST, in Desert Rose's new Palm Springs venue. The production is worth seeing, with fine acting, direction, and visual design.

POPCORN FALLS will stream for one day, on Thanksgiving. This zany farce, written by James Hindman, with incidental music by Jeffrey Lodin, tells the story of a community forced into bankruptcy when a neighboring town threatens to turn it into a sewage treatment plant. Palm Springs' newest theatre company, North Star Theatre, will perform WEST SIDE STORY at the drive-in lot on the grounds of the Palm Springs Cultural Center, beginning January 17, 2021.

North Star Theatre, a new company, is opening in the Coachella Valley. In October, when North Star hopes to present its first production, a musical, it will still probably be necessary to protect patrons and actors via masks and social distancing. North Star will use a drive-in theater concept to protect patrons and company members.

The Desert Rose Playhouse plans to move from its Rancho Mirage location to the former Zelda's Nightclub site at 611 S. Palm Canyon Drive, in Palm Springs. The company, the Coachella Valley's only theatre catering primarily to the LGBTQ+ population, is seeking to raise $20,000 in donations for the move before the end of the month.

Desert Ensemble Theatre (DETC) will present by Zoom a three-week series of short plays and monologues entitled SHELTERING STORIES. The series kicks off on Friday, May 22 at 7pm with LOVE LOCKDOWN, a short dramedy about romance during the pandemic. Jonathan Harvey's 1993 BEAUTIFUL THING is rightfully part of the pantheon of gay-oriented theatre. Desert Rose Playhouse's beautiful production does justice to this seminal play. BEAUTIFUL THING will run through March 29, 2020, at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets cost between $34 and $37.

Desert Ensemble Theatre Company's ninth season continues with HOW TO SURVIVE AN APOCALYPSE by Jordan Hall. The production opens Friday, March 13 and runs weekends through Sunday, March 22 at the Pearl McManus Theatre, Palm Springs Woman's Club, 314 S. Cahuilla Rd. Desert Theatreworks presents a Neil Simon play every season. This year's production is the 1988 farce, RUMORS, which is the perfect vehicle to show off DTW's team of talented actors' physical comedy skills. And they do show it off, in spades; the laughs keep coming, as much from the performers' and director Rebecca Havely's wizardry as from Neil Simon's script.

Desert Ensemble Theatre (DETC) has a must-see winner in its world premiere production of ADOPTION ROULETTE, by Elizabeth Fuller and Joel Vig. The play tells the true story of the horrifying experiences that Ms. Fuller and her husband, Reuel Dorman, went through in 2004 in picking their way through the minefield of Russian adoption.

Desert Rose Playhouse has another winner in its laugh-filled world premiere campy musical, THOSE MUSCLEBOUND COWBOYS FROM SNAKE PIT GULCH, with book by Andy Halliday, music by Frank Schiro, and lyrics by CJ Critt. This production is well-done in every way.

Desert Ensemble Theatre Company's (DETC's) ninth season continues with the world premiere production of ADOPTION ROULETTE, by Elizabeth Fuller and Joel Vig. Shawn Abramowitz directs a three-person cast headed by Yo Younger. Adina Lawson and Fergus Loughnane each play multiple roles. The run begins on January 31st.
