For the first time ever, Vandegrift Theatre Company will produce two mainstage plays in tandem with each other, the classic drama A Doll’s House and the new comedy A Doll’s House, Part 2. ABOUT A DOLL’S HOUSE Written by Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen, A Doll’s House is a timeless drama which revolutionized theatre and pushed the medium towards realism when it premiered in 1879. It’s Christmas, and housewife and mother Nora Helmer works hard to maintain the illusion of domestic bliss and happiness for her husband, Torvald. But when her husband’s rival threatens to expose a dark secret from Nora’s past, her world, psyche, and marriage begin to crumble. A Doll’s House’s themes of lies, deception, betrayal, and secrets within a marriage shocked Victorian audiences, and the play—particularly the final scene and the “door slam heard round the world”—is still discussed today. Nearly 150 years later, A Doll’s House still has something to say. A Doll’s House will be performed on Wednesday, January 24th and Friday, January 26th at 7pm and Saturday, January 27th at 2pm. Running Time: Approximately 2 hours & 30 minutes, including one 15 minute intermission. A Doll’s House contains some mature themes and content, including discussion of suicidal ideation and STIs. It is recommended for ages 12 and up. Dates and show selection subject to change. Please check our website and social media profiles for current information. All ticket sales are coordinated through the Vandegrift High School Theatre Booster Club. This production has been approved by the VHS Administration and LISD.
