A Raisin in the Sun at Genesis Creative Collective

Lorraine Hansberry's A Raisin in the Sun, directed by guest director Lisa Jordan, is presented as part of the 2026 Austin Juneteenth Celebration and marks the 67th anniversary of the play's groundbreaking Broadway opening. The story follows the Younger family, a working-class Black family in Chicago whose matriarch Lena wants to use her late husband's insurance money to buy a home, while her son Walter Lee dreams of investing it in a business. When a white representative of the neighborhood welcoming committee offers to buy them out, the family must confront questions of dignity, self-respect, and the cost of deferred dreams. The cast features Kendra Franklin, McArthur Moore, Olivia Jamison, Abigail Egbujor, Anthony Stallings, Justen Roberts, Nathaniel Jamison, Krys Jordan, and Roger Estrada, with production design by Andy Berkovsky and costumes by Christina L. Manley.
