ETHEL is a glimpse into the magnificent and very complicated life of the legendary stage and film star Ethel Waters. ETHEL will close the Alliance's Hertz Stage season at the Alliance Theatre, running tonight, March 25, through April 17, 2016. Opening night is Wednesday, March 30, 2016. Atlanta's nationally acclaimed Alliance Theatre and Jennings Hertz Artistic Director Susan V. Booth have announced the 2016/17 Season for the Alliance Stage, Hertz Stage, Theatre for Youth and Families, and the Kathy and Ken Bernhardt Theatre for the Very Young series. The 48th season includes seven world premieres, five musicals, five productions by Atlanta playwrights, and exceptional productions for youth and families. The 2016/17 season marks the Alliance's last in its current theater space before it undergoes a complete renovation, its first since it was built in 1968.

For any local college students looking for a night of heart-warming inspiration, Fifth Third Bank Broadway in Atlanta presents a special $25 Student Rush Ticket price for the Atlanta engagement of Kinky Boots, playing at The Fox Theatre March 29 - April 3 as part of the 2015/2016 35th anniversary season. Students simply need to bring valid college student identification with them to the Fox Theatre Box Office two hours prior to each scheduled performance. The Student Rush Ticket price will be available for Tuesday, March 29 and Wednesday, March 30 with a two-ticket limit per student ID. Student Rush Tickets will apply to any open seat in the house, subject to availability.

Pinch 'n' Ouch Theatre will launch its 2016 season with the Atlanta premiere of Johnna Adams' critically acclaimed play, Gidion's Knot, about a grieving mother and a primary school teacher in the midst of a deep parent/teacher conference. Directed by Hillary Heath, performances run March 3 to March 26, starring bold newcomer Vanessa Aranegui, and Monique Grant, who was recently mentioned as one of Atlanta's top actresses by Keely Herrick of Creative Loafing. Monique Grant also starred in Quiara Alegria Hudes' Pulitzer Prize winning play, Water by the Spoonful, at Pinch 'n' Ouch Theatre last season.

ArtsBridge Foundation, the arts education outreach arm of the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, today announced the 96 actors and actresses who will perform in the Shuler Student Ensemble at the 2016 Georgia High School Musical Theatre Awards - Shuler Hensley Awards. Additionally, the organization revealed the 32 members of its 2016 S.T.A.R (Students Take A Role) Council who will serve as production assistants for the April 21 awards show that celebrates excellence in high school musical theater.

Atlanta Musical Theatre Festival to be Held in August

Founder and Executive Artistic Director Benjamin Davis is thrilled to announce the launch of the inaugural Atlanta Musical Theatre Festival (AMTF), to be held August 1 and 2, 2016, at Actor's Express. The AMTF will be two days and nights of original musical theatre performances by local artists, as well as showcase performances of professional productions and educational groups. Performances will be open to the artistic community, the public, and the press. Submissions are being accepted now for work to be presented at the festival (details below). Tickets to the Festival will go on sale later in the spring. A fundraising campaign will be launched March 15 with support from the Festival's fiscal sponsor, C4 Atlanta.

The Fox Theatre Institute (FTI) announced its four 2016 Preservation Grant award recipients, which have received over $131,000 in support in the revitalizing of Georgia's historic theatres. FTI's chosen recipients were selected from a diverse field of outstanding applications from across the state for their exceptional potential to renew, reinvigorate and restore artistic vitality in their respective communities. In its eighth year, FTI has supported 15 projects totaling more than $360,000 in grants.

Atlanta Symphony Orchestra to Honor the Late Robert Shaw

The GRAMMY Award-winning Atlanta Symphony Orchestra celebrates the legacy of the late Robert Shaw, who would have turned 100 on April 30, 2016, with a special Centennial Celebration. Shaw served as Music Director of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra for 21 years (1967-1988), serving as a prominent leader in the Orchestra's success and history. In 1967, Shaw joined the Orchestra, presenting ambitious and difficult concerts, and introducing Atlanta to a wide range of classical music. One of Shaw's greatest legacies is the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus, and its 200 all-volunteer members, who delight audiences to this day.
