NEW YORK, NY - The next exhibition in the acclaimed Quin Arts series, an increasingly popular program curated by DK Johnston of The Arts Fund and presented at the Quin hotel on 57th Street and Sixth Avenue, is titled "Figurative Destruction," featuring the work of renowned German artist Wulf Treu. On view to the public from May 15 through June 15, the exhibition launches with an artist salon hosted by Wulf Treu on May 14, coinciding with the Frieze New York Art Fair on Randall's Island. Figurative Destruction features dramatic large format oil paintings on canvas, mixed media works on wood, and a video art wall installation highlighting the artist's neon works. For the first time, Treu will also present studies on paper from his body of work in sculpture, painting, and mixed media. These studies will be grouped into five stories, each containing four original oil, pastel, pencil and watercolor works, affording collectors and guests a special opportunity to acquire Treu's work at an unprecedented price point. Framed with offset primary colors, each piece is signed, dated and embossed by the artist.

Wulf Treu was born in Potsdam, Germany and grew up and studied in East Berlin, attending the East Berlin University of Art before the fall of the Berlin Wall. Treu escaped from his strict upbringing and an oppressive regime through the pursuit of his art and by fleeing to West Berlin. He would go on to live and work in London, Johannesburg, New York, and Miami. He has exhibited his work in prominent galleries and collections in major cities around the world, including Vienna, Salzburg, Miami, London, New York, Berlin and Washington D.C. In addition, Treu's work is currently used in the University of Western Australia's teaching program.

Wulf Treu's art straddles the line between abstract and figurative. Damien Whitmore, Creative Director for Phillips auction house, commented, "What I love about the work is the powerful sense that there is a kind of cold war still going on in Wulf Treu's head. The work is warm, perverse, innocent and dirty. It's also very funny, even when it's going for the jugular."

Carol Damien, Director and Chief Curator of the Patricia and Philip Frost Art Museum at Florida International University, added, "His work is personal, brash, painterly, expressive and full of extraordinary energy. Found objects range from street signs to fragments of any description. He works in a style that combines graffiti-like markings with dramatic brushwork on a variety of surfaces. Together, color, objects, words and the artists' energetic handling charge the work and the viewer's response to his message."

Figurative Destruction will be on display in the Quin's striking lobby, which includes a 13-piece, 15-foot video art wall in the grand salon. The Quin also displays two of Wulf Treu's works on guest room floors as part of its permanent art collection. Information on pre-show sales is available by emailing DKJ@concllc.com.
