Singer-songwriter Jen Chapin commissioned the award-winning Brazilian illustrator, Maria Eugênia, to create a video for her song, "Feed Your Baby", an intimate portrait of a broken food system, from Jen's new album Reckoning. Check it out below!

Jen's songs reflect a diversity of experience. She is not only the mother of two small children (7 year old Maceo and 3 year old Van Crump) but also a committed and informed activist, with a life-long involvement in WhyHunger (founded in 1975 by Jen's late father Harry Chapin), an organization that champions innovative, community-based solutions to hunger and poverty. Former Board Chair and Secretary, and current Executive Council member at WhyHunger, Jen also serves on the Board of Noel "Paul" Stookey's Music2Life ("soundtrack for social change") and Kids Can Make a Difference, and has worked locally with Long Island Cares, the Brooklyn Food Coalition, and the wellness committee of her son's public elementary school.

Chapin says, "I've been thinking about food justice issues for as long as I can remember, but it was only when I became a mother (and a mother of an exhaustingly picky eater in my 2nd son Van, at that) that my ideas coalesced into a song. Being responsible for the nourishment of small children really brings it all into stark and harrowing detail and you experience the joys and heartbreaks of our industrial food system in a new way - the good and the bad, the plentiful and the scarce, the gorgeously natural and the mindlessly over-processed.. Maria Eugênia (with animation assistance by Nick Matias) brought all these contrasts, and really, a lot of the heartbreak, to their powerful video. As an advocate especially for WhyHunger's grassroots efforts, I always lean toward celebration of the good news - there are so many happy reports to share of the fantastic work being done to improve things -- and my first instinct in watching the video was to recoil at the more painful images. But the fact is that Maria and Nick just went with the song, which despite an upbeat groove, tells some pretty intense stories.."
