The Immersive CAFE PLAY Reopens This Fall

This Is Not A Theatre Company is proud to present the reopening of Café Play this fall at the historic Cornelia Street Café in Greenwich Village. The show had a successful limited run last fall Off-Off Broadway and now returns for six weeks, from September 16 to October 28. Tickets went on sale Wednesday.

Café Play transforms The Cornelia Street Café into an immersive and interactive wonderland. Offering a unique glimpse into the lives of New Yorkers - from the waitress to the cockroach to the teacup on the table - Café Play runs the gamut from the hilarious to the profound and transformative. Audiences enjoy a three-course dinner during the show (included in the ticket price) to fully immerse themselves in the world of the café. Café Play is conceived and directed by Erin B. Mee, written by Jenny Lyn Bader, Jessie Bear, Erin B. Mee, and Colin Waitt, and has choreography by Jonathan Matthews.

Among characters in Café Play is a teacup voiced by the award-winning actress Kathleen Chalfant. She is the recipient of this year's Obie Award for Lifetime Achievement, and is well known for her performance in the original Broadway production of Tony Kushner's Angels in America, as well as for her award-winning role in Margaret Edson's Pulitzer Prize-winning Wit.

This Is Not A Theatre Company was founded in 2013 by director Erin B. Mee and playwright Jessie Bear. The company creates site-based, immersive, multi-sensory participatory dance-theatre that can be eaten, touched, and smelled as well as seen and heard. Past productions include Versailles 2015, Ferry Play, Subway Plays, and Pool Play 2.0.

Café Play will run from September 16 to October 28 at Cornelia Street Café at 29 Cornelia St.
