Texas Jazz Crooner Ken Slavin to Make Don't Tell Mama Debut on Tonys Weekend

 

Texas jazz crooner Ken Slavin makes his Don't Tell Mama debut during Tony Award weekend. He'll present "Shaken, Not Stirred - With a Tony Twist!" in the Original Room on Friday, June 9 at 9:30 p.m. and Saturday, June 10, 8 p.m. $20 cover and two-drink minimum. "I am thrilled to be making my first appearance at the most famous cabaret in the theater district," Slavin said. "A million thanks to Sidney Myer for giving me this incredible opportunity during Tonys Weekend!"

The program is a special edition of Ken's newest musical package spotlighting some of the best "saloon" songs of the Jazz Era, including timeless material by Great American Songbook legends Cole Porter, Johnny Mercer, Richard Rodgers, Burton Lane and George and Ira Gershwin - just to name a few. Included will be musical gems from classic Broadway shows that were either nominated for or won the coveted Tony Award. Music director is Barry Brake, Slavin's long-time pianist and producer, who also will travel from Texas for the debut.

Ken's classy, polished vocals have earned him comparisons to the great jazz and pop crooners of yesteryear - and led to opening performances for such jazz legends as The Four Freshmen, Dee Dee Bridgewater and Eddie Palmieri. He also has garnered an international following through social media and digital media platforms for independent musical artists, most notably ReverbNation, where he has spent the past several weeks at #1 on the San Antonio and Southwest Region jazz charts, as well as the Top 10 on ReverbNation's U.S. and Global jazz charts.

Though based in San Antonio, Slavin has made significant in-roads in New York after his Big Apple debut at the Metropolitan Room on Halloween Night 2013 and three subsequent shows there, including his most recent "Cocktails With Ken" performance in January 2016 which was live-streamed worldwide to great acclaim. His current CD, "You Gotta Have Heart," recorded at the Metropolitan Room and produced by Tony Award winner Paul Boskind (co-producer of the revival of "The Normal Heart" in 2011), is heard on jazz radio stations coast to coast and has received excellent media reviews.

Ken is a voting member of The Recording Academy, which produces the annual GRAMMY Awards.
